Controller switching for remote play together.
Please add controller switching for remote play together.
This would allow me and my friend to take turns playing singleplayer games like crash bandicoot, the same way as if they were in my house. E.g. whenever one of us dies or completes the level we will manually hit the controller switch button and the other plays it until they die or completes the level and we repeat this.

A timed switch mode would also be pretty fun.

I propose you add 2 options (radio buttons I guess):
Manual Switching - With a click button/s to switch controller ordering.
Timed Switching - With a little input box next to it where you type the time in seconds. (But have a minimum e.g. 15 seconds to prevent lagging the system).

I believe this would be straightforward to add but would be A COMPLETE GAMECHANGER for the steam platform and would improve remote play together so much.

I'm already very excited about remote play together and hope you will consider adding my suggestion. Very happy with the work you're doing lately, keep it up! :warpstone:_:warpstone:

Edit:
I have created a mockup of what I believe the settings for this could potentially look like.

Seconded.

I find that implementing this feature in one form or another would be beneficial to expanding remote play together. Considering the multitude of single player games in the steam library it would be a neat feature to add down the line for fun challenges. it would be like if someone you knew hopped into the game and wanted to try it out while you were chatting like you were in your living room.

Yeah it would open up many possibilities and would take the steam platform to a whole new level compared to other services which facilitate streamed local co-op gaming such as parsec.
Other than the convenience factor and increased accessibility remote play together will provide, I believe this suggestion would help Steam gain a real edge over them in terms of functionality.

interesting concept, but that would only be valid if agreed betweem two players generally. It's much feasible to do this via remote access, but it isn't without flaws. fundamentally, one would need to grant access to you're steam account also. this however, is not without it's share of risks. Be mindful that you trust a person 150% prior to bestowing access. After all, product keys can potentially be harvested and sold. I'd be triple sure prior to engaging in this. That isn't to say it's a bad idea, since playing a level a piece between friends is enjoyable.

I couldn't condone this as a workable practice, unless it's with people that you 150% can know and trust, that isn't to say that it still isn't possible to achieve. Technically, it can already be done using remote administration tools (or RAT's). But again, there's risks. One would need to expose an IP address. Not only is this unique to the individual, but you would need to emplore VPN's for added security. The downfall is that the redirection of internet traffic would entail lagging. But that isn't to say that you can re-route IP addresses using the right knowledge.

Not sure you fully understand what "Remote Play Together" is.
It's a new feature being added to Steam, beginning with the beta in a week's time.

Remote Play Together doesn't require giving someone access to your steam account or anything shady. You start up a game like street fighter, send your friend an invite for remote play together and then steam sends them the game visuals but also passes their gamepad input to the host.
Steam will implement this in a way that only safe known controller inputs will be passed to the host machine and NOT keyboard or mouse inputs so it's not a risky thing in the slightest.

My suggestion only adds functionality on top of this.
To give the host the ability to switch the controller ordering through the steam overlay.
Enabling singleplayer games to have enhanced functionality.

By doing this I believe it would encourage a lot of people such as myself to play more of the exclusively singleplayer games in my steam library as it will feel less of an isolated experience and gives players the opportunity to connect more with their steam friends which is what the steam platform is all about. :frepeaking:

Thanks for all the support, I appreciate it.
Hopefully the Steam Development team take notice.

This is really cool. I've always wanted to play Local Coop games with my friends online, or maybe play a singleplayer game together - there's a silly thing I do with a friend of mine where we both play a singleplayer game and sometimes one controls movement and another does the camera, etc, and it can be really funny and entertaining specially when you beat a game like that. Really excited for remote play local coop games online, it'll be superb! Hope it all works out.

I wish the Steam Development team would look at this and say something about it. :cozyprodman:
