Suggestion: Fix your FEDEX Shipping restrictions on hardware
I request you please ease the restrictions on what the receiver can do with FEDEX shipping. I bought the Valve Index and knew the shipment was coming at a time while i am at work. I normally go online with the tracking number and place a hold at a FEDEX facility so i can pick it up.

Your restrictions ONLY allow for delivery. FEDEX will not hold the package, only deliver. I just bought a $1000 device which i have to leave outside all day (i do not have anybody which can sign for it) during the rainy season. I can roll the dice and hope nobody steals it and hope it does not rain. Those are my only options.

I understand the need for a signature, i am not asking you remove that request...I am asking you just remove the restriction where the recipient cannot place a hold at a FEDEX facility so you don't end up screwing us over.

Nothing in that article refers to my issue. I am not asking to modify my shipment as i know it is too late, hence this is in the suggestion section.

Mother of God. I am completely lost why people are quoting the FAQ. It has NOTHING to do with the actually delivery....

The issue is DELIVERY is the ONLY option. FEDEX does NOT allow holds without valve telling them to allow it, which of course valve will not do.

Yeah, it does actually, and Im just reading it for the first time.

"How do I modify or cancel my shipment?
You can modify or cancel shipment within 24 hours of placing your order. After 24 hours has passed, your order is allocated for shipment and can no longer be changed, cancelled, or recalled either by you or by our Hardware Support team."

'Modify or cancel shipment'

and:

"What happens if my order can’t be delivered?
When the carrier is unable to deliver an order, it is returned to our shipping warehouse. All charges, including shipping, are automatically refunded back to the original payment method.

Undeliverable orders cannot be shipped again; instead, you will need to re-order the products."

For anybody who has this issue.... forget the others who are just telling you to read the FAQ. Contact Steam Support. They can submit a request to FEDEX to hold the shipment, just like the did for me.

Take the day off.
Work from home.
Call in sick.
Ask a friend.
Ask a family member.
Pick up one of these: https://www.packagepatrol.com/
Plan an elaborate heist to get your own package from the truck before you go to work/school.

I kinda feel your limiting yourself in terms of options... ;)

All that said, I do hate when companies don't allow the pick-up option.

Good to hear you got it sorted.

It stated in the article the delivery company used which is who you need to contact in the KB article...

Who delivers my shipment?

FedEx delivers all US shipments.

Did I ever say it was to be done any other way? Pretty simple logic to contact the delivery service to ask for a hold and not Valve.

After reading who is delivering the shipment, using Google is far less than 7 clicks to get to the page needed.

What is even easier, there is a tracking code in the email where you can access FedEx's page.

I think you misunderstood my post. The reason I wrote this post is because FEDEX will NOT hold the deliver due to shipper restrictions. I have held plenty of packages for me to pick up later. Valve has put restrictions FEDEX can ONLY deliver to the house and get a signature, NO HOLDS.

That is why i put this under suggestions and was not actually asking for help. I was suggesting Valve ease on the restrictions for others who may order in the future.

We don't have fedex, just the facility. They hand it over to someone who does hold it.

Ya, it's a bit weird that Valve didn't set this initially as it's a service provided for free if you set it up which is a simple drop down in the ship manager. Glad they got it sorted for you though.

I don't even need to make a call. If no one is home, they drop it off at a store where they have a contract with. Like a normal supermarket. And they put a note in your mail box, where they dropped it off.

I am having the same issue. With no response from Steam Support so hopefully I will someday get my item. I do not understand why they don't allow the Hold at location. It is more secure than random person signing for the package in front of my house. There is a bus stop right there, so it has happened to me before.
