VAC Banned Users Should be Allowed to Vote on F2P Game Reviews
The point of it is to block bots correct? There are better ways to block bots. There are also give assumptions you can make such as an account with 100+ games purchased over the course of almost 10 years is not a bot.

I've decided to also leave this discussion. it has become derailed with mostly "Don't cheat bro." which would imply I cheated then, am currently still cheating now, and that stopping would somehow allow me to vote.
Also, no, I don't want to make a new account and give Valve tons of money every 5-6 years or whatever the average false ban time is just to have a clean.
I should probably stop here before I end up derailing my own discussion.

If you want to find the old post that most people replied to I've archived it on the wayback machine.

Son if you think that people who've been to prison aren't still being punished the rest of their lives even after they're released, you need to research metaphors before spewing nonsense.

I'm not making a new Steam account.

Yet that is the single, solitary thing that can rid your account of this restriction.

Pretty simple math, huh Bob?
I was speaking about recently, not in the very distant past. You'd expect prison YT channels to at least speak about it if it did happen.

How it ended typing about people being in prisions
Because this is similar to someone being punished, accepting everything that comes with it, moving on, and then 5 years later someone coming up and saying "Yea we've decided you can't own a skateboard anymore." or something like that. I've never been known for good analogies.
Point being this restriction was added long after and the point of the post is the restriction should only apply to those likely to be bots not real users.

refuse to do the simplest of things to fix that problem...
I mean... you are on a suggestion's page about having it removed? Is there something I'm missing? What's this easy way to fix it? Steam support said they cannot remove my voting restriction.

The easy way is to:

Not have ever allowed the account to be used to cheat.

....

That's IT.

That's THE solution to not having a vac banned account, and therefore having any of the restrictions placed upon it.

A suggestion that would remove a restriction? Sure! that IS a suggestion all right. But you haven't yet figured out that the restrictions that have been *added* are there *for compelling reasons* and are NOT going to be removed because some folks refused to do the simplest thing and make a new Steam account *the moment they realized there would be permanent consequences on that account* due to a ban.

You've had the option to make a new account all this time, and have refused to do so. That's your decision, and I suppose that's your hill to fight on, but this is a very losing battle. The restrictions are there because other cheaters used their accounts to do bad things with them. Yes, voting on things, doing trades, those are PRIVILEGES not rights, and when those perks start getting sticky with concerted efforts on the part of cheaters who wanted to 'get back' at developers or the system...

It's not going away. Your only choice if you want an account that has all the bells and whistles, is the same choice as anyone else's.

Make a new account, don't cheat with it and don't allow others to have access to it to use it to cheat. There. Now you have access.

You can always family share most games to a new account, you know. It's not like they didn't THINK about this issue. They thought about it all good and hard before even touching the code let alone implementing it.
Also LOL I just read that screenshot you pass off as "proof" that your 6 year old ban is 'false'...

And you include the words, "when you checked later it was an Overwatch ban"

... Now look dude, when an account gets both an Overwatch AND a Vac ban that is 100% absolutely accurate.

YOU don't have to have been the one who cheated, and bans are delayed days, weeks, or even months so what you were doing for several months before the ban was irrelevant - also, "competitive" doesn't matter in the slightest - PLAYING on any secure server, which is to say "all" servers that are not listed as -insecure, with a cheat, will get a ban.

Being Overwatch'd however, that means people REPORTED the account obviously cheating. Leading to the Game ban that was then supplanted by the Vac system's word.

I love how you then try and play off that your "cousin" used an account / you were using his (it's unclear because it's one of the most obvious lies in the book) and it got 'hacked'... No, your 'cousin' used the account and cheated, or he let his guard down and let his creds get leaked, leading to other problems.

Everything in your 'truth about' image is just so sad and irrelevant. Go down to the Vac section to understand more, dude. We have seen literally every lie and every excuse about why the account's vac isn't 'right', and they all come down to this:

The account was used to cheat. The cheat was detected. The ban was applied. The ban comes with restrictions.

It doesn't matter who used it. You, your 'cousin', some phisher who got your account creds, your cat, chairman Mao... doesn't matter. It's permanent as are the restrictions.

Anyone who has a "story" behind their ban in my book did in fact cheat. To me it is equivalent of a child accidentally breaking something in the house, parents question it, child states they didn't do it when clearly they were the only other person there.
Ah the good ol' "He isn't replying he's a cheater!" "Only a cheater would reply to hackusations!" argument.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4045-USHJ-3810 Also to those who didn't, please follow the rules.

I call it as I see it. If you truly believe in your story then more power to you, though it doesn't change my opinion that those with a "story" for their ban did cheat. If that bothers you so much then perhaps my opinion is more of a fact. Personally I wouldn't have to be so desperate enough to get random people to believe that my ban was due to something that didn't happen, I'd simply take the ban as is and move on.

Let me point out your 'story' is so laughably bad

https://prnt.sc/12smyrq

1) overwatch bans are not vac bans. you have a vac ban. Ergo your ban is not overwatch. Nice try! Or it was overwatch, then got upgraded to a vac ban. So by your 'story' 2 entirely different anti-cheat systems BOTH said you were cheating. But yeah 'I didn't cheat'

2) Oh wait ANOTHER ban on different account because.... your account became your 'cousins account' which literally does not happen. So this time you're magically saying your steam account 'became' someone else's? Yeah lets go into how this does not happen. Ever.

I don't think Valve has made a mistake that needs adjusting. Cheating has consequence.
Exactly and the consequence should be to not allow them to play the game. Imagine if government ran on this policy of not only putting them into prison but retroactively adding punishments
You mean like not being able to vote?
Because that's part of the additional punishment. Just like the inability to vote on reviews/make reviews from something you're banned from; you don't get a say in the "society" you're a part of, when you've done something bad enough against it.

"I don't want to take the only solution", well, that's your decision to restrict yourself. Though you don't get restricted if you don't cheat.

Maybe you know, dont cheat, and then your problem goes away
It literally doesn't?
It won't be a problem in the first place if you choose not to cheat or compromise your account.

The stuff in your profile shows you actively were attempting to block VAC, which does not just happen with an OS update, so your intent is really clear. You did what you did, the consequences are still there, that's that.
no thank you. i like that there are consequences to people cheating in multiplayer games. you ruined the fun of others, you do not get to express your opinion in the votes

The problem with VAC Banned accounts is they're usually sold out once banned to spammers and hijackers to either scam users or use it as bots in order to commento or upvote content.

There's the ocassional user who sticks with their VAC banned account but, for the most part, these accounts end up sold to toxic actors in bulk, hence the restrictions.
hey dude I have a 4-5 year vac ban from tf2, I'm still around, on multiple occasions I lost my password, or steam guard was on an obama phone and it's service got cut off, I even got my steam account stolen once and my hacker friend on discord helped me get it back and report the website that took my account, I've been through hell and back for this account, it's gonna be the longest vac ban account where an actual user uses it and not some bot/spammer

I hate to ruin your flow but *I* shall be the longest vac ban account where an actual user uses it, as a person who tried to produce an effect, got no effect, and then got detected anyways after being votekicked by an entire server
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
