I chose many years ago to have a private profile, because I can have it that way. Before I even used the Steam Forums, so what's the real reason for the hatred of someones choice?
You're not going to find profile comments even if it was public, my friends rarely use the forum as well. So what about private profiles makes people "cowards", exactly? My account is over 16 years old. I don't want or need it to be Public to make points against people, I just pointed out that if you had a good idea, you wouldn't need your friends to back you up because you asked them to. 3 of them last posted in Oct/Nov 2020, one made their first post just on this thread, the guy posting below me last posted Jan 14th and Dec 17th. You really want me to think they randomly stumbled across this and that you didn't ask them?
And does your friends supporting you give your idea validity? No it does not.
Private profile = Privacy.
Wanting a name displayed is a privacy violation unless the person agrees to have their name shown.
The default is off for a reason.
Nobody is saying that Steam should be like Facebook, it's said that an author of any artwork should have such opportunity to view who left a rate, like on Facebook, we're talking about function here. That's just illogical, then why do they (steam) bothered with this "like / dislike" , also they've added "awards" recently. Then prob, they should remove this rating at all.
Same as with your profile, you decided to hide it, you had a choice, same here, it would be nice to have a choice. I think that's a normal wish.
If you absolutely desire feedback from specific people, allow comments, make a group for the work, etc. Or post in an appropriate area where people can just make comments within that, solutions exist. Everything outside of who you know, is just someone that happens to like the material. This thread is a great example of why you don't need to know who.
He didn't hide it, it is a private profile.
Ahaha! Actually, in Steam, EVERY user has a personal profile. According to the rules, it is not allowed to others. Family access doesn't count, it's different.
You both have hidden profiles. I think this is one person who writes from two accounts.
Many people have private profiles, is everyone that comes in with one magically going to be the "same person"?
I don't need to have more than 1 account to make counter points against you, or anyone.
Did you forget your comment or the request you are making which is to display user names.
Secondly the choice of displaying the name of a user who leaves a like defaults to private because you DO NOT need to know.
There is a very big difference - you do not need to know and that includes likes.
Privacy is on the side of the user not on those who deem social media a godsend.
But hey, they are going to remove showing us the last 3 people who liked content in the feeds of a social network, but meanwhile are still going to leave showing everyone the names of the last people who likes our lewd Steam Store purchases in the same activity feed of a social network.
