There is a reddit post about some guy (Xeinok?) and he lost 800k achievements... for someone so dedicated (whether he cheated them or not) this update could drive him to potential suicide I suppose??? Imagine losing 16 years of your work and dedication all at once....
https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/lwobyw/new_steam_update_march_2_2021_no_longer_counts/
I am an achievement hunter myself
Now my two cents...
It is true that there are a lot of people being upset about those cheap and trashy games being removed from their counts. However the reason why people complain about it is because they mainly bought it solely for that reason because they are easy to beat and you get hundrets if not thousands of achievments sometimes only for starting the game.
And the latter is the main reason why there are people other achievement hunters out there that complained about these games actually being counted before. As many hunters try to beat harder games and actually want to "achieve" something when beating achievements.
"Start your game" is not worth an achievement - not to mention 5000 achievements - and therefore many people - myself included - are very happy about this change
- Woodle Tree Adventures 8 achievements
- FlChess 9 achievements
- Grindzones 11 achievements
- Pigmentum 11 achievements
- Hard Cube 13 achievements
- AppleSnake: Christmas Story 15 achievements
- Base Squad 49 17 achievements
- Gravity Wars 31 achievements
- Arcane PreRaise 36 achievements
- Arcane Reraise 36 achievements
- !4RC4N01D! 1 39 achievements
- Sudoku 76 achievements
These are not the 5000 achievement spam games you are talking about.
As far as I can tell it only applies to banned games. Maybe including games where the publisher ended the contracts with Valve entirely for whatever other reason than just breaking the contract
Woodle Tree Adventures has a new game Woodle Tree Deluxe
so the original game was just deleted for whatever reason from the storefront...
So I've lost completing these 8 achievements for no reason other than Steam putting a new filter in place. Let's not link 2 seperate issues.
That is a completely different problem actually.
The games in question right here are those that were solely published with the purpose of spaming achievments. There are actually fun games around that spam achievmements ranging in wide ranges of efforts to make - Payday 2, ZUP games and so on - but these actually serve a purpose besides spamming achievements.
Those "Achievement Hunter"-titles for example. On average the can be maxed out in less than 2 hours. And each of them deliver 5000 achievements. So putting them all together you have around 30 games that are pretty much the EXACT SAME GAME over and over again. So basically you could make 150.000 achievements and 30 perfect games in about 60 hours of playtime. Apparently you could parallelize them so it would be even less but lets assume you only play one game at a time
This is WAY beyond what achievement spamming games are still out there
There is a lot of disaapoibntment in people who have lost perfect achievements by hundred and thousands. I request Valve to relook and restore this aspect again.
Worry more about the game than +1s on an unimportant counter that is nothing more than bragging rights.
Many games were not trash or Spambot games so who gets tod ecide that? Also Steam allowed certain games to be sold then removed them then why penaklzie customers? In that acse refund thsoe gam,es also if Valve thinks they allowed spam. Its not fault of customers. Steam, allowed sale of a product, so blaming customers is certainlt not the way out, when they decide to remove featrues and achievements that customers also paid for or worked for.
Tomorrow if Doom or Serious sam or Batman Arkham Asylum is removed from store why should their acjhievements be marked as spam bot and deleted for example? Who decides this?
