System Spec Tier and Polls

Create a tiering system for system specs and put games into those tiers based on compatibility. I.e. spec requirement of 3060 or higher and i9 or higher T5, 2060 or higher and i7 or higher T4, etcetera. Each T would be a collection of specs such as RAM and so-on.

Would help people pick their computer parts based on game requirements in general on Steam as they would know based on the Tier what parts in general would help. Individual part picks lacks this cohesiveness and can be more hit and miss.

Users could be polled on what Tier a game seems to fall into so game designers do not have to test several builds to figure it out and users can go by poll numbers.

This could also normalize a more cohesive way of picking groups of computer parts; i.e. I have a T5 computer, you have a T2, thus you will have trouble running x y z games.

This would make it easier for people to figure out where they are at and what they need for games. Would make Steam look forward-thinking to implement a simple categorization system. This will be inaccurate and imperfect as a categorization system, but it could evolve over time with parts and general computer part marketing may incorporate this thinking too.

No one will be able to see anyone's name on your Friends List if you do that.
Or use the Friends Only privacy setting, so only other people on your friends list will be able to see any of your friend's names.

Simple solutions.

I'm already seeing warning flags here.
The fuirsty being that you don't seem to eb processing *WHY*. As explained. Your system is basically going to always be blind to some key hardware details. That alone can make a difference between two seemingly identical hardware platforms.

Here's the simple truth. Microsoft has been trying to do something like this for well over a decade. They have not been able to make it work. Microsoft is in the absolute best posityion to be able to do something like this but yet they can't make a decent go of it.

Think about it.

Then there is the fact that you use the word Intuitive.
That which is accurate, or tre, is not necessarily Intuitive.
ANd Ironically it is those who would rely on intution that would most likely run afoul.

Of course, the elephant in that room is brands ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up otherwise perfectly useful parts; i.e. one brand having a GPU 20 degrees cooler than another's.

And while temps do play an impact have you considered the why behind the temp differences. Maybe one is running fewer cores, lower clock speeds, or has low-power architecture, or simply has better thermalsolutions built onto the card.

Things like temperature I suppose could be weighed separately, in addition to other factors brand vary on part-to-part, when creating a weighted point system to put computers into tiers.

Oy vey. Even disregarding that there's also what happens when software is specifically geared towards specific hardware. WHat then? There are games that are optimied for nVidiada chipsets, or AMD. Some optimized for intel.

ALl you're saying would just ad a another point of confusion, confusion that is easily solved by people just learning to read their specs.

Side note. You can always tell when things are going to go down hill when someone starts off by talking about the level of someone else's account.

I am requesting a lock on this thread for 2 reasons:

1) I intend to create a different form of this thread in the future, with more focus on how a weighted spec tiers system could be designed.

2) Some mild doxing has occurred within this thread.

Thank you moderators for being patient with not locking this thread at my request, but given recent developments, I am okay with this being locked.
