Review Awards
Need the option to disable, reject or opt out of receiving them all together. This was not a good idea and I don't understand why I've been forced into participating in this toxic social media garbage.

No one's forcing you to give awards. Nor is there an issue with receiving one, as you can get free points to use in the points shop.
while there is nothing wrong with receiving them, it seems the worst things get them and some are just used for insults like how i got jester on another of my posts in suggestions by a person i blocked communication from

and it really is social media garbage that cannot be argued

I am not for this btw, i don't mind getting free points but when GuD gAmE gets a 2k point award, thats sad, steam community is very dumb and cant handle new things or old things

This game saved my life.

I am 41.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiraling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand... my working hand... my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.

After learning of the severity of my self-inflicted damage, I was borderline suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man with no history of depression or anxiety. I have never had fits of rage, or been one to break down and cry, but I was in a low spot that just really buried me from being able to see the light on the other side.

Having nothing better to do, I searched for a game I could play, ONE HANDED while I recovered. I somehow stumbled upon this game and read some of the reviews. I decided that it had to be worth a shot... I must admit, I didn't beat the game, or play nearly as long as some of you. In fact, I may have only played this game a day or two.. With that being said, after doing so, I had a new found joy and hope for life. I was able to put behind me the pain and suffering that had been cast over me. I was able to experience other peoples joy and happiness. I was able to see the fruits of my "labor". I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ing minutes to this music long enough to realize that I was going to be okay.

After coming to that realization, I turned the game off, and I went back to work. It hurt my hand like hell but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so damn sorry for myself, and I became the father I needed to be in that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving as.

Today, I am close friend with my kids mother. We don't fight, or argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents, and friends.

I now have 3 kids. My third child is, wait for it, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my own separation, and we just stumbled in to each others life unexpectedly. We have been in a relationship for a year now, and are very happy together.

Moral of the story, you never know what life holds in store for you, and if I would have given up when all the odds were stacked against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Thank you."

The only one here that should complain about this are the mods that needs to monitor and remove this garbage. Well at least they get paid i hope.

Well, if there are points, people will always find a way to farm them.

It is more than fair to allow a user to make their review not awardable.

After all, if I want to shoot myself in the foot, who are you to tell me no?

If a user simply does not want to have their review easily seen or gain points, that is their prerogative. Let them not stand out if they do not want to.

Im on my mobile right now, but on your profile preferences you can disable awards on your profile and in your email settings you can opt out community award emails. I've done both. The email setting is in a slightly different place on the mobile for Android.

Try this:

You can use privacy settings on reviews, and set them to Friends Only, and that will keep random unknowns from being able to see your review and give it any awards, of any kind. Then, if you get one, you know it is somebody on your Friends List who gave you the award.

I keep my profile fully private anyhow so those settings don't matter much to me. To each their own but I have no desire to put myself on public display be it real or an online persona. Participating in discussions to provide customer feedback and playing multiplayer is the extent of my desire to interact with other people online. I have no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other mind numbing SM accounts.

If I had my way, you would only be able to mark a review as helpful or do nothing at all, but I could deal with the occasional senseless downvotes since I only write reviews to give feedback on the game or help contribute to its overall score if I really enjoyed it. I could care less if anyone found it amusing or hates my opinion. I most certainly don't approve of Valve giving people the ability to permanently plaster cringy emoticons onto my reviews however. If I wanted to help cultivate that kind of culture, I'd stream Fartnite and wine about my roommate not doing dishes on twitter.

In the middle of talking with Steam Support about this right now. I had a review for a game where I ranted about how buggy it was and gave it a "do not recommend," but after seeing it had multiple jester awards I was like "alright I'll be nicer." I deleted the review, recommended the game cause it is at least halfway decent, and wouldn't you know it all the awards I'd gotten were still there. It honestly doesn't make sense considering that even just changing whether you recommend the game or not gets rid of all of the "found this helpful" or "found this funny" reactions, as well as comments. It should fall under those 2 categories as well, especially when you change your review to something that is in no way stupid or "clown" worthy people are gonna look at it and be confused why you have those awards on a normal review. I mentioned to them that if you do, in fact, delete the entire review and post a new one, it deletes the award number altogether, but not the award itself. I had 2 or 3 jesters on one of my reviews and after I made a whole new one it just shows the jester icon with no number next to it. No clue why they have it delete all but one, and not the whole thing altogether. Kind of dumb, hope they change it. I also suggested to them, like you, that it be something we can disable or not, even just change it to "friends only" because we already have that option for comments on the review.

Just look at it like you got some free Steam points. The fact that the number of awards is deleted and is not restored when the review is recreated is probably a bug. Nothing really is ever deleted, so recreating the review basically just restores it but gives you the ability to edit it, which is already available anyways. The only purpose for deleting a review is you want it gone but don't intend to recreate it.
