Filter Steam Library by games compatible with Operating Systems
I'd like the option to filter games by OS compatibility (i.e a checkbox for "Mac OS", "Linux" & "Linux (Steam Play)") within the Steam Library filter when running Steam from Windows.

I am thinking of switching to Linux as my main OS, but in order to go and find out how this is going to affect my game Library in Steam I have to make an install of Linux AND THEN find out how many of my games no longer work. Alternatively I have to manually navigate the "SteamOS + Linux" Page to see if specific titles are affected, which is time consuming and ain't nobody got time for that.

It would be nice to just know straight away which of our games specifically from our Libraries are Linux Compatible and which are not, so people can weigh up the pros / cons themselves. Linux is admittedly the easier of the two OS's, as at the moment I can in theory make a Live USB with Steam installed to it, whereas what if I was looking into getting a Mac? The only way I could know which of my games specifically in my library works or not would be to either

1. Try it out on a friends mac
2. Make a hackintosh (if I have the hardware to, which I do ;-) ) or
3. Peruse a list of games on the store page.

At the minute none of the solutions are very user friendly and could really easily be addressed for each user's account just with a filter in the Library.

You can check the games store page.

Else, this is not likely to happen, because of this:

Debatable. This can be done with nearly any OS as well, it's nothing special or unique to linux.
First, yes, this would be very useful.

Second, this site should let you do it, for now.

Put your Steam name (or custom URL or whatever) there and let it read your games list (which needs to be public; I noticed your games list currently isn't, which is unfortunately the default behavior of Steam nowadays, despite the rest of your profile being public).

Third,

Given that Steam has made multiple attempts at making Linux gaming more of a thing, I'm not sure "too few people use it" still applies.

Thanks for the replies, yeah I just remember Valve being very focused on getting Steam users to switch to Linux ca. 2014 around the time they tried out SteamOS and the Steam Machines. With the Steam Deck on the way coming with SteamOS preinstalled I reckon they'd still have some interest in that idea.

The way Windows 11 basically looks like a Linux distro coupled with forced M$ account logins, and the vast improvement in Linux game compatibility since Valve did their previous push, I think it's a good time for Valve to try it again. Bear in mind, if they have more success the movement could be exponential as more developers try to catch a growing Linux market.

I'll check out that site for now. I'm not really a particularly active Steam user these days anyway, really just curious how much of my Library would work in Linux...

I just thought adding a filter in the Library is probably a very easy change to implement that could have a small impact in assisting users in making the decision to potentially migrate to SteamOS or other Linux distros.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, you might also be able to figure out, but on a more case to case basis (maybe?), whether your games work with Proton.
