Installed games appearing as uninstalled needs better fix.
So today the steam launcher just randomly prompted me to install ESO again when it was already installed. I searched online for a fix and it told me to go ahead with the install and it will detect the files and fix itself. However....ESO is huge and I am sure other games are too, I didn't have enough space and had to free up 80GB by removing games just to get it to the next screen
for it to basically say "oh lol, the game is actually there, my bad".

You really should add an option to relocate the files through the library or something. Now I have to reinstall GTA since I removed it to make space I didn't actually need.

This isn't a Steam issue, your HDD is having issues.

Incorrect, HDD is fine. Either way, it seems to be a common issue based off what I read on the forums and there should be a more convenient way to fix it. Your input doesn't help.

If Steam is reading that a game is uninstalled when it has not been, the problem is either Steam or your HDD. And having been using Steam for over 15 years (should be 16 on my profile soon...), the problem is not Steam on this one.

Get a tool to check the health of your HDD as games reading as uninstalled when they are still there is a sign of degradation starting to kick in.

The problem only happened on steam and was fixed through steam, so it was steam. I already tested the HDD and it is fine. And again, prompting me to free up disc space before detecting the files is a pretty flawed design, there should be a way to get steam to acknowledge the files are there without having to have enough free disc space to install the game over again, so everything you are saying is irrelevant.

For argument sake lets say it is my HDD and I need to go about fixing it, I'd still need steam to notice the already installed files and I still would of had to make space just to get to the next screen for steam to realise its actually there.

So please stop talking now.

Steam doesn't do that unless the drive shows that the files are missing. This, again, is not a Steam issue. Furthermore, save the attitude for someone who cares.

You're wrong, but it's okay being wrong, and again, even if you were right, it still doesn't make my suggestion any less relevant, so why waste your breath?

I think it has something to do with the last ESO update because I fixed the issue through steam and guess what? People in my guild actually had the exact same issue, I guess all our HDD's suck...because you are not wrong..right?

So because no one else is having this problem, it must be Steam. No other possibility that the only controlling factor present here is your computer is having issues. Nope. Cannot possibly be that. Better just insult others who point that out to try and prevent data loss or other catastrophic failures....

Again, Steam only reads what it can read. If your HDD is suddenly making games unreadable randomly, again, that is a sign of HDD failure. You being mad about this is like screaming at the doctor for listing possible side effects of medication you are on that include losing your temper.

I'm not being mad, just saying you are incorrect. I fixed it, through steam, its running fine now, after fixing it, through steam and there are people who had the very same issue since the last ESO update a few days ago, and they fixed it through steam, so I am not the only one.

There is also a thread created by steam to give instructions on how to fix it through steam. All I am asking for is that they make a more direct way to remind steam that the files are actually there, so again even if it is my hdd, steam should still make a better way to verify the game files.

It's okay to be wrong bro.

Something on your end caused it, OP. Maybe you didn't exit Steam properly? Whatever the issue, you need to fix it so it doesn't happen again

It's a common issue in two cases:
- external disk drives that either aren't connected when Steam gets launched or that lose connection while Steam is active;
- People not closing Steam properly or not letting it sync.

In both those cases it's indeed a common issue, but it's a user issue. That's also why Steam has a support article about it in which they discourage the use of exteral drives because of it.

Less common is security programs interfering and 3rd party launchers causing troubles.

Anyway, I wouldn't be averse to a quicker file recognition system, though that would likely mean an overhaul of how Steam downloads work in the first place (pre-allocation and such).

See, it seem this is the problem, not my HDD. Zenimax launcher updated my game and it most likely conflicted with steam. Once steam verified the files after I let it "install" what was already there it was fine. However I had to make up disk space to get to that "install" screen, otherwise it wouldn't of verified.

I am simply asking for a better way to verify the files.

So you agree with me that this isn't a Steam issue. Your apology is accepted for all of the insulting.

No, it wasn't my HDD, so you are still wrong, nice try though.
