I like the idea of having this data provided without a third party website.
The data is already readily available. Being picky about how you access that data is your own problem.
I don't see your point. This is far better from a developer standpoint and the data is live and accurate. Also Valve could use this data to give better recommendations to players.
Edit: In this day and age data is gold so having a first party solution simplifies the front end and improves the backend (or gives Valve and developers far better tools to work with to use as they please).
In addition they could have data for certain game modes in case a user wants to buy the game for a specific mode.
