Filter by price, please
Me: *digging around the $10-and-below sales*
Steam: Players like you love games like these! *almost all $30-$60 games*

Look, I can't afford to gamble on games that are priced like it's the 1990s and $60 hard copies sold via GameStop is the only way to turn a profit. Wish I could, but I can't; the joy of being disabled and on a fixed budget, looking for that unicorn combination of "quality" and "budget pricing". Most of my Steam browsing experience is games I can't afford. Why bother? You're just not getting that money from me; I don't spend often, and my purchases stay mostly under $10 on a game (a rare exception: I bought Borderlands 3 for... $30, I think? Really wish I hadn't. Huge disappointment), and only after I've tried to make sure the game is something I'd enjoy. (Misguided by the fact that I adore previous BL games, even though I don't like FPSs.)

It'd be nice to have a setting to make the advertising I see more in-line with my budget. $20-and-under would be fine. I may be a DQ fan, but I don't have a DQXI budget; if they want to show up in my client, they can run a 50% sale on their definitive ed to bring it down to that point. If I want to be annoyed by overpriced rehashes of old game tropes, I can choose to turn it off for a look.

You can narrow by price in $5 increments already.

As someone in a similar life situation, I would appreciate this feature too.

Oh yeah, nice. I hadn't thought of using steamdb for that - mostly for checking how bad a dev is trying to rip me off with lopsided regional pricing nonsense.

Why use Steamdb? In Steam search you can filter by price, for example games under 10: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?maxprice=10. You can narrow it down by using tags and such.

Lol, I'm just used to it at this point. It's become a preference really.
I don't use steamdb. I just want to be able to tell the Steam client to stop shoving stuff I can't afford in my face. I'm sure there's plenty of ads I could be seeing for good sub-$20 games, or games on sale for sub-$20. I'd like to see that content without having to go diving and sifting for it.

Which is exactly what you can do RIGHT NOW while using the search.

Follow the link I posted. It's for the Steam search. You can adjust the price. And by selecting "On Special", you only select the games that are on sale (ergo have discount).

The Search experiment has already shipped with this...

Folks seem to have missed the point entirely. I want the client to filter out high-priced games on the home page. I know how Search works, but I just don't want to see games I can't afford every time I so much as pull Steam up. The best comparison I can think of is that I don't drink... I stopped about five years ago... and I wouldn't want Steam bombarding me with booze ads if I could have the option to turn those off.

I don't want to see all the advertising for games I can't afford... on my home page... with Steam somehow insisting it's what "players like me" want to see "based on games I play". No, no it isn't. Not at all.

It's not "I want to find the cheap games", it's "I don't want to see the expensive games".

Ok if you want it on the main page you need to specify that in the opening post. You did not.

The main store page is not tailored like that for obvious reasons.

can't we just enter a number for the filter? it's kind of hard to find games specially when next to P60 is everything :steamsad:

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
