Why can't we use own photos as background pictures?
Why can't we use own photos as background pictures?
Yes I get it....Valve want our money, so they (and the devs) sell gackground pictures from games!
But you see, I bought like25 of them and now I am just sick and tired of them (and I will not buy more of them!) Now I would like to use my own picture for MY steam account page! We can use our own pictures as avatar pic, so please give us option to use own pictures for background. If not from day 1, how about if we could unlock option after buying 10 steam background pictures?...

Steam limiting choices in profile customization allows them to give the user liberty to customize their profiles without making the site itself lose it's corporate image.

Profiles are ultimately the community presentation card of the service. (If you're interacting with other members their profile is most likely the first thing you'll be looking at) By keeping all profiles 'look and feel' the same it provides a better user experience.

TLDR: Limited customization options allow users to set up their profiles without letting them go full-MySpace on their profiles.

I've seen enough of what people do with uploaded UGC as to understand why Valve may want to keep in check stuff like backgrounds and animated profile pictures. I wish the people around here was mature enough to let them freely customize their profiles, but experience has proven reality is quite different.

Yeah well, so steam mods just ban a very poor suffering man with very tough psychological problems.

Insulting people is bad, yeah. But "derailing the thread" oh come on a thread is not a train! It will not hurt any one if some people write more and more and more and then they write off-topic stuff as well. So what?
As someone with schizoaffective disorder, I find it genuinely insulting you try to use the condition to explain away bad behavior. Your mental conditions are no excuse for how you CHOOSE to behave, sorry to say.

You can't sit there and use it as an excuse when it's in text, because you legitimate have time between writing and posting to evaluate what you've said.
