And keep in mind that preloading just means you then have to wait again when the preload is decrypted in many cases, a process which can take about as long as the download itself.
Sure, its not available right away. But to get it added to your queue just like any update would already be a first step into the direction. This way you wouldnt forget it or atleast have a faster time accessing your new game (and maybe have it ready if enough time went by)
Decrypting ofc is another thing :) this cant be skipped. but thats mostly for bigger titles that really have a preload.
If there is a gamerelease that is preorderable (like Sam&Max Save the World currently), you could simply queue the game into downloads on the release date for the user.
There could be a "Would you like to download this game as soon as its available?" Box that youd need to confirm for it :)
I could get behind that but be prepared to have your queue start downloading a couple days past launch day.
Not only to ease server load, it was also a method to let players with a slower connection to download the game before launch. This way a user has a smaller decryption update on launch and can start playing sooner.
My suggestion wouldnt change this procedure, but it would allow a user to start the preload at some point after it got available. This way a user couldnt forget a launch or be reminded by it. Just a near QoL thing.
That´d be fine, its not the important part. People that want to play Day1 or want to Update asap ofc have immediately priority, just like that users that are chosen to receive it first without their own interaction by the system, over someone who just has it lined up in Queue. A game you have installed but not touched in a while also gets rowed in your Queue but takes several hours to autodownload if you dont manually click on download.
If the auto queue on preorder titles would be a thing then I think this procedure can stay. Its just the auto queue :)
but hey, atleast youd only need the day 1 patch :P
No. It will require the entire game to be downloaded again.
bad devs have a entire game to push out.
dont buy bad games.
Preloads will fail if a day 1 patch is released during the preload download. Did you read what I posted above?
