Not quite what you're suggesting but there is at least that for right now.
Having now looked that up, I see what you're saying and I would say this is definitely a good interim feature, being able to sort the main shelves. At the very least this will help me try to keep my storage situation under control!
What I was referring to though would be similar to this but it sorts the game list on the left side of the steam library page and categorizes them together by Disk and sorts vertically by size. I'd probably put it under the "Play State" filter that already exists.
"A is for Apple" does little to tell me about the important qualitys of said apple that i need to know while looking at an entire bushel of them at once..
