Has been requested before, but as usual it takes Valve time to do things.
But that also has the downside of making it harder for us to determine whether an account has a history of getting compromised or not, so in hindsight maybe it's just better for such skinsites to continue uncovering themselves instead.
Unless you just leave the name history uncensored for that sake. Maybe they should do the same with offensive words too?
Imagine going to jail, because you said something offensive, how does that sounds like to you? What kind of associations?
AFAIK can some "bad words" lead to increasing cooldown and a permanent name ban. But nevertheless OP stated that bypassing the system would lead to a ban. Not the name itself.
They MUST adhere to rules governing all-ages in the USA. Period. You don't get to opt out of censoring, for this reason.
I do hope that they do eventually nix all the crap nicknames that people can use. Some of them are truly horrible.
For example, you can search for a term... https://steamcommunity.com/search/users/#text=CS.MONEY
https://steamcommunity.com/search/users/#text=G2A.com (You'll have to put back the pieces yourself for this one, obviously)
...and have it openly shown with several users. It is a very reliable telltale sign of where users have been in the past thanks to the name history, especially when deducing scams.
