sign into steam with no internet
The other day my internet wasn't working due to some power outage in the area. I was thinking "ok i can play me some single player games."
So i go to sign into steam and it will not allow me to do it cause I have no internet....honestly I thought it was pathetic...I payed for all these games and I can't play them whenever my internet is down, that's really not fair...
Why can we not sign into steam with no internet connection?? This should very well be available...

even to get to offline mode, you must be able to sign into your steam account and then go offline mode. To be able to sign in you must be connected to the internet...but I understand now like Washell said that would make it too easy to make pirated copies of games..

What are you talking about?

You start Steam without internet and go into offline mode for months on end. Only certain games require internet connections.

Or is this another one of those "bait threads"?

You seem to not undertand...YOU CANT START STEAM with no iternet...I get the whole offline mode thing but if i am just turning on my PC, and try to sign in steam without internet, it WILL NOT allow me to do that no matter what..there is no "go offline mode" option..

Actually, that's not true. The reason offline mode might not work during a malfunction is if you don't properly close the Steam client before shutting down your computer. If it's still running when you turn your system off, it forces a shutdown of the program, which, apparently, causes issues with offline mode.

And I know offline mode works without an internet connection because I tend to get malfunctions from time to time. Heck, I've even signed into offline mode with my laptop when there's no power.
This.

I would add that he should make sure he has his Steam settings configured correctly; i.e. have "Remember my password" box on the login window checked and "Don't save account credentials on this computer" in the settings unchecked.

There being no option to go offline at startup as you describe is inconsistent with the normal functionality of offline mode. Unless something is amiss, the option to go offline should be there if no internet connection is available. What usually happens is the following:

1. Turn on PC;
2. Steam tries to log on;
3. Login fails because internet is unavailable;
4. Steam asks if you want to retry login or instead use offline mode.

As a test, you could try disconnecting your modem or ethernet cable and reboot to see if the offline option is available at startup.

#4 never happens to me...however I did have the "don't save account credentials on this computer" box checked, I unchecked it and I will test it out later because I am downloading something right now

but I think that was it

i have the "don't save account credentials on this computer" also checked cause i dont want to save any login info on my pc, the pc is my pc and i alone can log into it but i never save any logins on my pc, i always enter the logins by hand, so nothing of value is stored on pc regarding passwords :steammocking: it takes more time logigning in every time cause i also do not let steam start up when starting windows cause i am the one who controls when steam goes online, steam is a tool and only people and pets are allowed to roam free across the house so steam is not allowed to run always....

Anyway normally if the ISP is having problems the steam client should detect that and tell you to use offline mode, just start steam and remove your internetcable or disable it from windows then start steam and he will ask to use offline mode.

But the point was that rescue team7 does require steam to run 24/7 and have an active live connection with steam all the timeand thats all because this way the gamer can play on any device he or she has installed there client so data be saved online in tyhe cloud and that does need a 24/7 live connection, and no isp is online 24/7.

Any form of DRM will always and only hurt the honest buyer.... countless topics in as many countless posts can be found all over the big internet telling that.

I disagree. I have never been hurt by any for of DRM, nor have had any issues with them.

does NOT work with rescue team 7 at least in my case i tried everything: the game requires you to be logged in steam and be LIVE , yes the steam client needs to be in online mode and make sure internet works cause otherwise no play....

Steam is not DRM. Steamworks can be used as DRM, if the developer chooses to use it as such.

Such restrictions are up to the developer of the game, not Valve.

True, thats why i buy games first at a big sale so the games are cheap, if and when many games do not have the always need steam to run to play restriction then i will keep buying games from them and often even at list price.

Anyway seems seeing is believing so i made a screenshot ( i removed gametitles cause not the whole world has to see what games i bought or how many)
Look at the messages on the screenshot and right on your monitor you see that the internet is disabled check the icon, and the RT7 game does not start.
And thats what i meant with some limitation of bought games that if isp is down or a local cable for the internet has erors or is damaged the game cannot be started because of no active internet, with FREE browsergames it is okay but whit paid for games it 'hurts'

The link i just got after upping the file to imgur:

it worked a few minutes ago so you should be able to see it

i hope you know what i was refering to, when games store progress online so 24/7 uptime of steam and your isp is needed and every isp has downtimes (and more then you think)
