About VAC and cheat engines
I had a discussion with the support and they adviced me to post something here

I'm a beginner game developer (just starting to learn unreal engine)
I do remember about people talking about a "cheat engine". Curious to know more about that "tool" and maybe to have good habbits in my games, I downloaded it.

But with a few more research I saw that Steam would be able to detect the software and can ban players *only* because there's a cheat engine on the PC (not even started or anything, just installed)

I know Steam is leading a heavy anti-cheats campaign but by my side I think it would be bad ONLY if people use it in Online games (because in solo games...well, the player want to waste his gaming experience...his problem I'd say. Online, it can affect in a bad way experience of others players, that's obvious)

Moreover, uninstall and reinstall the cheat engine each time I need to try something on my projet would be very fastidious...

So...except if I misunderstand something, I think it would be better not to ban the player as soon as Steam is started and a cheat engine is detected, but maybe to warn him when Steam starts and warn him again when he starts a game that can detect the cheat engine

They told you to post here to get rid of you because support only does billing and account issues. Anything else they tell people to post on the forums.

There is no warning because if they did that it would give them time to warn others. It also doesn't ban right away so that it can catch more cheaters and get rid of them.

If you don't want your account to be banned, don't use cheat engine. Its that simple.

You won't get banned just because you have Cheat Engine installed.
Just don't run it while you're playing games that use Anti-Cheats.

And you posted this in wrong discussion.

That is false, you can have cheat engine installed on a pc without it triggering a vac ban or warning, they are detected in vac-secured servers. I say this from experience as I used to use cheat engine years ago with single player games which leads to another fault in your post....

Not all games use vac and typically single player games do not, again I know this from first-hand experience.

Finally the other fault is

Just an example of warnings shown in-game that servers are vac-secured and cheating will result in bans. Steam itself does not detect cheats, it is the vac-secured servers that do (as stated in my first quote).

You won't be vac banned for simply having something like cheat engine installed. Whoever told you that is a doofus

That’s not strictly true, Fiddle. Cheat Engine itself won’t cause a VAC ban but when it comes to other cheats all bets are off.

Someone could write something similar but do it so badly that it interferes with games anyway even if it’s not injected.
