Fake VR with smartphone gyrosope tapping and side by side mode for VR?

I don't know if anyone is up for the challenge but do you see VR using a smartphones gyroscope for headtracking VR games any time soon? Also it would be nice to see a DLC mod to enable side by side screens to get smartphones with VR using apps like Trinus does anyone think this idea is possible?

Well I was thinking what if all you needed was games that had the option to enable a 3D Gyroscope mode with your phone to the steam client? That way steam can EASILY pick up your phones gyroscope without complication.

Maybe you need to check what google cardboard and Gear VR are... Because as far as I can tell, they're the exact implementation of what you're asking for.
