Annoyances of scrollbar behaviour
1. Steam client. When you click and grab scrollbar handle, move it long enough up or down, while moving cursor left and right from it (accidentally, because of looking on content, not on scrollbar), then release it. Handle stays in place, but when you enter cursor in scrollbar track area, handle jumps to that point. Then you have to search place on page again.

2. Steam store product page. When you scroll down to comments section, comments are loaded dynamically, then page gets longer and scrollbar handle shrinks and moves up, so you can't scroll whole page with one move. Maybe you can add there a placeholder?

1. I do not use Steam beta (but also have this issue for long time).

2. Not when placeholders are used.

The scrollbar is a mess on its own. If you lose sight of it, it will panic and follow your cursor even if you don't click it. I am surprised they never got to fix that issue yet. Luckily I have the wheel.

2. That's how all scroll bars work.

I get this behavior. Also the fact that it doesn't follow your movement when moving your mouse off the scrollbar, which happens to everyone at some point :

Exactly, has been a problem for very long and it's really annoying.

Add me to the list (3/7/2019). Windows 7 x64 and Logitech mouse (G302). The way things are suppose to work is in the window that has focus (active window) mouse controls like scroll wheel are suppose to work over the entire area. That's not consistently happening here (I've had the occasional time it works). It's currently, slider snap to mouse pointer and the area of focus is JUST the scroll bar. Most likely someone screwed up the arguments that go to the function that controls scrolling defining too narrowly.

Having this issue too... it's been happening for at least a year. I have the latest version as of today. Still a nagging, very obnoxious issue with the scrollbar. Will anyone actually give enough f*s to fix this?

I have a logitech trackball.

OK, so I've been fiddling around with this, I have a TEMPORARY FIX for this mouse-stuck-on-scrollbar issue.

- I noticed that the mouse continues to scroll the bar and keeps attachment to the scrollbar (even when you're not on it) if you inadvertently/accidentally move your mouse off the scrollbar *(off the Steam Client - usually right side) during the scrolling process.

- If you stop scrolling and release the left mouth button to release the scroll while your mouse pointer is on the scroll bar, it will not get stuck / attach to it.

- if you somehow leave the scrollbar *(off the Steam Client - usually right side) during scrolling and you release your left mouse button, it will stay attached to it, which causes the annoying bug.

Temporary End User Fix: Go back to the scrollbar and click the left mouse button while you're on it and it will release the steam client scrollbar.

*Sometimes, the mouse stays attached to the scrollbar even if it's not actually on it if you move off the scrollbar, period. But, typically, it breaks when your mouse pointer moves off the client and you release the left mouse button.

DEVS, PLEASE FIX THIS ON THE ACTUAL CLIENT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! WHY DOES IT TAKE A YEAR TO FIX THIS ANNOYING BUG.

The #1 is still an issue (at least on Linux client). How can a company in Steam's (/Valve's) position have such a bug for this long? "Amateurish" is the first word that comes to mind...

edit: You could at least release the scroll when using the mouse wheel, so we don't have to manually release it from the scrollbar.

At least you're getting a response. Giving the client window focus should automatically activate the scroll wheel. I have to manually click-and-hold, dragging the slider up and down. This is on windows.

I'm on Win10 and do not have any of these issues. It functions like any other scroll bar on any other gaming platform.

Someone mentioned the Linux client and maybe it's just Linux OS that is the issue.
