Cross region gifts
Let us pay the price difference, what's the big deal?

Edit for clarification: for example it's $1 for me but $3 for my friend I'd happily purchase the gift with the $3 price.

I want to give them more money though? More clarification below.

No, it's entire purpose is so those who can get it for cheaper won't gift to those who have to pay more. Doing it the other way defeats it's purpose.

What I want is to pay that higher price so I can gift my friend in another region.

Ie it's $1 for me but $3 for my friend why can't I purchase it as gift with the $3 price?
Because laws are a thing and they forbid Valve from charging a higher price than advertised or from allowing you to pay another countries taxes which may be included in that $3 price.

Honestly why do so many people think Valve wouldn't happily let you just pay them the extra money rather then having to go through the digital gift card route if they could.

Valve halted that process, to avoid purchase abuse, so in an alternative method, gifting them wallet credit would be easier so they could purchase their preferred gifts without the hitches.

I find that reason very unaccommodating since people in regions with the higher price still can gift. If anything it should be the other way around? And I have yet to understand how allowing people to pay more would contrubute to purchase abuse.

You're asking for a bait-and-switch, which is illegal. They must sell the games for the price they advertise in the store.

I'm sorry can you elaborate on that?

Because laws are a thing and they forbid Valve from charging a higher price than advertised or from allowing you to pay another countries taxes which may be included in that $3 price.

Honestly why do so many people think Valve wouldn't happily let you just pay them the extra money rather then having to go through the digital gift card route if they could.

Your first point sounds reasonable, if Valve were a bit more clear on their community policies I wouldn't have to ask stupid questions like this.

How can the tax thing be applied in this case? Not trying to argue here I'm just curious since gifting is still a thing, just not from a region with a lower price to one with a higher price.

While some areas have no taxes and some like the USA have them added on when you reach the final payment stage meaning the final price you pay is a little higher than the displayed price other regions require the taxes to be included in the displayed price so the price shown in the store already includes them.

Thanks, first time I ever heard about tax included display price.

In the EU VAT is already included in the price displayed and is not added on checkout. Not that uncommon.
