can only invite people from your friendlist to join a group.
it really ruins things for me that i cant invite people i know from a forum/game to a group unless they are on my friendlist.

please give steam users the ability to "allow group invitations from everyone and anyone"
but have it disabled by default upon implementation.

edit after suggestion by
"The_Driver"
"AmsterdamHeavy"
thanks guys.

..and I do not want invites from people not on my friends list, and neither do most other people.

THAT is why you cant invite people that arent your friends. People who arent your friends dont want your spam.

this could easily be solved with a feature where you could choose to "ignore invites from people that are not on your friendlist", thats a good idea actually, will add it to the topic. thanks

That still leaves you with an initial spam before people search that option... reverse it to fix it, give us the option to be invited from anyone. Then the minority of users that'd enjoy such a behavior can choose to enable that.

ah yes, even better, thanks.
just on a sidenote, i have never experienced spam invites from groups, nor have i ever seen threads on any forum complaining about it, so are you sure the "spam" thing isnt a nonexisting issue?

How would removing that feature accomplish anything? How about start trying to be friends with them first?

Before the change was made to prohibit invites of non-friends, you'd have daily threads here or over on reddit. A quick google search e.g. brings up https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/2333276539609419891/

This WHY you dont see it.

When people could mass invite, I would get spam invites to groups constantly.

I am much happier now that I do not get those invites,. Most of us are happier now that we do not get those invites.

Let me put it another, more forceful way. I dont know you, I dont like you, I dont trust you, so no I dont want to be in some random group with you and a bunch of other people like you.

See, this is what happens. You join one of those groups, and then bunch more people like you in that group send more invites, to other groups.

People complained. Valve saw the problem. The functionality was removed. We dont want it back.

edit: Id also add that spam of this type and others is exactly why they implemented limited accounts as well, so i dont get these invites from lvl 0 1 game accounts either.

1 tread from back in mid 2017, with 5 comments on it?? i guess thats why i didnt see it, but this thread hardly got any attention, clearly it wasnt a wide spread problem, i surely never experienced it, but anyway as you said, they could have fixed it without ruining it for anyone by adding the ability to "allow group invitations from everyone and anyone". a much better solution imo that the one they went with.

a simple ability to choose a setting like
"allow group invitations from everyone and anyone"
woud have solved it without ruining it for anyone.
anyway, the suggestion OP was edited, i dont know if you saw it, but instead of removing the feature, it would just add a feature instead.
