GameRanger-like Steam-VPN
It would be such a cool thing, if Steam had a way of easily setting up a virtual Network and playing old games that only have LAN-Multiplayer with your buddies.
You could have an Option for it in group-chats so that you can connect with people.

Valve already provides a multiplayer service through Steamworks. Developers are literally free to use it.

Won't happen because VPN's are heavily used to try and get around region restrictions so Valve have taken a firm stance against supporting them.

I phrased it wrong. It would not be a full-fledged VPN but instead a program like Hamachi or GameRanger that would only make a virtual LAN for playing games together.
Unlikely but just about everyone of those games has a guide or somesuch to getting it to work

If you need an actual VPN instead of a glorified Internet proxy, have you ever tried setting up an OpenVPN server on your network or your friend's network?
