Offline on login would be good again, as were the quick options in the corner.
Thank god for the "-nofriendsui" right now!
I want that true offline login back.
What I actually meant:
In that previous chat version, you could choose an option to start the chat status always offline. So if you went acitvely online, but afterwards restarted windows/steam, it startet "offline" again. Here, if you chose another status, it will stay there after restart. But I want always that offline status at first, if i restart.
If you go digging in big picture you can find the option in there to not sign-in to friends when you login. But it appears they were just lazy and they forgot to remove the button. It doesn't actually prevent steam from signing into the new steam chat/friends list or anything. I personally feel they regressed backwards in quality with this update. Taking away user options doesn't make the UI friendlier. It just means that we have two choices. If you don't want to be bugged by friends you can either tell them to not bug you or.... you can clear your friends list out so nobody contacts you on steam.
When you have no friends no one will try to bother you.
Why even have a list with friends if you're never going to communicate with them?
If you switch "-nofriendsui" on, you also get the whole "Settings/Friends"-Tree again, with all the options, including "Don't sign in automatically".
Which also seems to work, in that mode.
Not everyone want to login into a Chat each time he or she start a Software.
And also if you would Remove everyone on Friendlist you still would be connectet to a Chat Server also if you dont want or need it.
There is no real Reason why you MUST be connectet to Chat every Time also if you dont want to Chat , there is also no real Reason why the Friendlist offer no Option to disable this stupid Sorting by Games .
oh and a Offline Setting for Chat has nothing to do with Hate all People .
This Entire Steam Update looks more like some sort of "Hej lets do something to show the Smartphone/Tablet Teens we are coool", it does not really add something Useful only a Ton of Junk, Forced Settings for Users and thats it.
My post was directed towards the topic starter which made it quite clear he hated everything about the chat in general, even the old one.
If you don't want to be bothered by people put it in Invisible mode and then reply later on with "I was busy with something".
And while I don't chat with them through Steam, it's nice to see the Friend Activity and being able to invite them to a game through it. Neither of them require the thing to pop up every. time. I. start. steam.
Lastly, options are good, even if you personally won't use them. For now, I've stopped running steam at launch. I'm sure that's what they were gunning for, less engagement with their store/client and actively annoying (a (small) subsection) of their customers.
To be clear, I don't mind signing in. I mind it popping up. I kill everything on my PC that pops up without me asking for it.
Edit: apparently if you start steam with a -nofriendsui command switch, it stops the window popping up. We'll see how long that lasts, or how much Valve Time it will take to make that accessible to a tick box in the settings.
So tell me, why Offline Option was removed? What exactly was the Reason that this Option was removed? If you say go Invisible , then i tell you that is Invisible is not Offline, so you know areal Reason why it was removed? And no , There is now Invisible or You can Start Steam in Offline Mode are no Reasons.
Same Sorting in Friend List, can you tell me why there is no Option to disable this Stupid Sorting? I dont need a Friend Liste Showing me People Playing Rust and then Playing Other Games and Then showing me Rest of my Friend list.
A Friend List should show all Friends sortet from A to Z. If someone likes this Advertising Friend List then add a Option so People can disable this new Stuff..
I am so disappointed with this move by Valve. I like to socialize, but not they way you want it. In my case the effect will be opposite to desired. I will log way less often. I will log to true offline mode way more often. This social media move stinks mile away. I can see that all changes are done with sales in mind. All that community stuff, profiles, friends activity, hubs, streams - it's all about exposure, and so is this ONLINE login as well. You want to push sales further by making people communicate more often. ♥♥♥♥ that. I'm out. Time to get another hobby for lone wolves.
You are 100% right. You DON'T get the issue.
It is not about hating poeple. It's about having privacy. A choice. An option. Do you ALWAYS enjoy chats? Even if it's not your day/you not in a mood/you are late/tired/some car splashed you on your way to work and you are dripping wet/you had difficult day at work/you suffer from sleep deprivation. Nah, not possible. The same applies here - you might just want to start steam to play a game alone. ALONE. Without messages bothering you on a particular day. Or maybe you are a lone wolf who uses Steam because it's a DRM and you can't play certain games without activating them on Steam.
There are some people will love that feature though - GOG owners. I think they got another customer.
Zefar I didn't say I hated chat I just thought being forced to sign into it was stupid, melli32 post perfectly explains my feels on the subject perfectly.
I got friends mostly because we communicate on other platforms, we use steam to play games together, I don't use steam as a social network and I don't like those kinds of things being forced onto me.
