Let us remove Big Picture tab from library window
Holy crap that was a mess. I accidentally clicked on the mysterious new box, next to minimize and maximize.

And I very nearly had to ctl-alt-del to get out of the resulting garbage fire that is Big Picture mode.

Have I ever expressed any interest in using Big Picture in any of my settings? No? Then why oh why is it STILL THERE ready to ruin my browsing experience?

When Steam detects the account being set up to use it, that's GREAT. That's wonderful for those who DO want it.

For the rest of us - who accidentally click on this monstrosity and DO NOT HAVE A CONTROLLER PLUGGED IN, or DO NOT use a tv to play games, or do NOT have a tablet or whatever else that garbage works with - it should NOT BE THERE.

Jesus I'm going all caps I'm so frustrated with this new update. Why update so many things at once? To prove how much Steam devs can BREAK at once? Because it's all manner of broken...

I've never liked Big Picture Mode and always felt there should be a checkbox in the Settings window to hide the function entirely. I'm probably never going to click the new box (never clicked it when it was a gamepad icon prior to today's update) but from time to time I do accidentally click it in the View menu because they idiotically put it right next to Small Mode and I frequently switch between Small and Large Modes. I think there actually used to be a button to change to Small Mode but they removed it a long time ago for whatever dumb reason, forcing me to use the View menu instead.

And for future reference (maybe you already figured this out), you have to click the "power" icon at the top-right while in Big Picture mode to bring up a menu to exit it. It's a very inane design and I remember being confused and frustrated my first time trapped in it as well.

Yeah the option to use it as a function is great and fine. I just ... want the option to tell it "and NOW I would like big picture mode". It's not a default that I - or a lot of others - seem to want or need. And being so darn close to the minimize button is a TERRIBLE mistake.
