Please give a way to disable ads and restore library list view.
I've begged endlessly, but I very rarely even use Steam and hate launching it now and it makes me sad. I've been a Steam user since Half-Life 2.

Can we PLEASE pretty please get an option to disable the product update ads for all games, without exception, and delete the what's new shelf?

In addition can we please get an option to restore the list view so the massive library is not wasted space or filled with huge icons? I only want the instant, responsive text view with various columns of information and no icons which worked well for some 15+ years.

Rightclick the " whats new about your games and delete or show less.
Small mode is at the top VIEW.
In the library click on the play icon next to search games at teh top and show ready to play games.
You can also make the thumbnails smaller
Steam top left settings>library, elements size.
There are options here in the same place to hide community content.
You can find every else you need under the Artwork of the highlighted game.
Unfortunately, element size doesn't help (I don't get the old compact mode's columns of sortable information).

Temporarily hiding or deleting or showing less information doesn't let me delete or turn off the shelf.

Hiding community content doesn't remove the updates, since developers keep adding more updates which continue to spam the shelf.
I’ve decided to only purchase cheap, arcade type games that fit in with this new library display

I’ve stopped paying good money for a horrible interface

I even did an in game purchase, something I really didn’t think I would EVER do but hey, crap interface, crap purchases.

I’m disappointed I’ve amassed so many good games in this interface I now can’t stand to look at...
There's a literal option for "only show product updates' for it. Do people not actually look at the UI at all
and where is the option to completely remove news about said updates?
do people not actually read the posts to understand the problem before posting non useful and irrelevant 'help'?

Thats what iv been thinking. Seems people are a bit anti change and do not look into the functionality of the interface before making a judgement. People will get used to it eventually.

Currently the interface matches every other platforms interface. Not much difference. Not sure why people insist on complaining. Not to mention 100 people not buying games makes 0 difference to steam.

To anyone who has not seen the old interface, they will be alot more accepting of it then the people who know the old interface.

For as often as I've seen Google and Twitter and YouTube and Facebook and whatever else change UIs every time some corporate bigwig sneezes, you'd think the one time in a decade that Steam decided to make a change that it would be more accepted. The prior Library was so outdated and poorly designed. Granted the current Library is loaded with content that wasn't there before, so it's profoundly different, but well overdue.

I'd like to see it a bit more optimized but as with anything I imagine it'll get better with time.

Exactly. Agreed.

And when in game an action does not do what you expect it to do due to a change listed within the update news do you go on the forum to complain and feel a fool when someone links you the update news.
no. I never had a problem keeping up with what's going on as usually read update notes on my own and don't need them plastered next to my library. never had a problem before

. but it sure sounds like you did and I'm sorry to hear you forgot to check and felt foolish! you do know updates are (and have been for a long, long time) easily found without the need of them bloating the library, right?

"Bloating" is, like, your opinion, not an objective fact. That, and having to look them up in a separate place is an additional task. I, for example, would totally halve missed the last event for Rage 2 had it not been announced on the library home page.
so you never knew where to look before or you just didn't bother? and 3 clicks to get to the update and back sure is some task...
but lest we misunderstand each other. I don't mind it's there to help people like you. that's great. I even love A lot of the new functionality. I'm not asking for it to go away.
I'm asking for the option for ME to make it go away. sort of like I can with the other shelves. why do you care if I see it or not?

I don't do 3 clicks because I can. I'd totally have done that 3 clicks had I known there's something to look for,, but there's no way knowing that without doing those 3 clicks. Get off your high horse, some of us like news brought to them.
But to stick to your guns, scrolling past the news is 2 clicks on the mouse wheel, I've just beaten you with your own weapons.

where did I say you should not have that option.
please try to pay attention.
the request wasn't to take away your update and what's new shelf but instead it was to allow those who don't want it there to remove it.
since you want it there and would not remove it try to explain wth you care if I don't want it and remove it?

and if you don't care and it wouldn't effect you... why are you on this thread?
