Ability to Delete Steam Comment History
I think that it would be beneficial to give Steam users the ability to permanently delete their comment history through some means. I posted a lot of regrettable things on my old Steam account when I was a kid, including personal information, and am unable to delete or edit these comments myself due to threads being locked or old groups having their discussions locked entirely. I have contacted Steam support and they have been of little help to me regarding this situation. Most modern online platforms allow for the deletion of one's post history. For example, GOG support was able to permanently remove my forum post history upon request with no questions asked. Allowing users to permanently delete their comments is an important privacy feature that I think would benefit Steam as a platform if it were to be added. Thanks for reading!

What I wanted to do was to delete a single comment I made on a profile that scammed and blocked me. I said "+rep, good trader", then on the next trade he scammed me.... and blocked me.
Don't trust "rep" for this exact reason.
Only scammers benefit from it by trying to appear legitimate.
For everyone else, "rep" is meaningless.

This whole idea feels like it's pretty close to the EU "right to be forgotten" law requirements being written right now. Am I close here? Feels like you want to have your "account purchases" transferred - and old account wiped - although not sure how much legal ground we stand on there, since all the games WE ALL buy on steam are technically not bought, but are licensed, and the license terms is not going to necessarily allow a transfer.

You are completely off if that was to me.
I want to delete a +rep that I could normaly delete have I not been blocked by a scammer.
That, and just that, is what I want to do. If possible - if not, I can live with that. Sad for the future victims of this scammer though.

If users bothered to pay attention and LEARN things they'd no +rep = worthless. Plenty of times were users get +rep is creating or hijacking a thread asking for +rep and saying they'd return the favour also know as begging/Repfarming which is against forum rules. Hardly reputable.

Next is the join a game server and immediately ask for +rep for + rep......they haven't even fired a shot and want +rep?

It means nothing. Anyone that actually pays attention would know that making your +rep irrelevant. For those that don't a scammer could have 432592437569285702135 -reps (not deleted) or 475329562347948 +reps and the victim would still get scammed.

You yourself said you checked on a website and his profile and yet you still got scammed because you ignored basic trading advice of all items in a single trade window.

If you didn't wrongly think Rep ment anything you wouldn't have put it on someone elses profile. The fact they blocked you so you can't remove it is irrelevant. YOU commented as though it means something and it doesn't.

No you know rep = worthless the +rep you put on that profile is.....SHOCK....Worthless.

Yes its your comment but it's also that users profile.

Dude... are you OK?
I did read well, twice actually, and now a third time.
I even said I was sorry, and now I believe I should have included a thank you in my original profile.

If you need a friend or would like to chat, I'd be glad to have you as a friend on this virtual thingy right here. I don't usualIy add private profiles, especially not aggressive ones, but I could make an exception just for you. Hope you have a 2022 better than your 2021. I'm serious about this man, feels like you had it rough and didn't have an outlet to vent.

The people who are against users being able to delete their post history, are the same people who say "cameras everywhere are okay, because you shouldn't be doing anything wrong in the first place." For goodness sake, they're even keeping deleted posts archived, presumably so that mods can look into your post history. Disturbing.

I'm sure it would be too much to ask that you realize your reticence to feel some empathy for others not only WILL come back to bite you in the future, but is currently affecting your ability to have open discourse immensely. You're all constantly in fear of something that will be taken in the wrong way (even me, while writing this very reasonable post). The sad part is, likely none of you even realize that you're shooting your own foot while aiming the sights down the range.

The ability for people to change their views and grow is such an important part of life, and it is clear via many of the posts on this thread (including from people who contribute to oversight, which is part of the problem) that true empathy is very lacking in modern society. I think it's very disturbing that moderators have the ability to do whatever they please, with pretty much no recourse from users to control the privacy of their own content.

Nothing I've written is truly terrible (perhaps excluding a post that commended one of the worst "news" hosts in history), but I feel for those who have written much worse, whether due to lack of maturity, awareness, or it just being a bad time in their lives.

Issues like these are weighing this platform's functionality and longevity down like a ton of bricks. It's only a matter of time before a good alternative comes around with an understanding of the benefits that free discourse and privacy bring. These draconian measures to keep people in line will lead to the eventual downfall, mark my words.

I've already seen steam do this when a user gets a community ban. All their posts are deleted.
So i don't see a reason we can't delete everything ourselves.
After a thread has received a certain number of replies it can no longer be deleted, same if it is locked.

It does sometimes happen where you make a thread and some people come to troll it. I've had it happen to myself. You can no longer delete that thread and the trolls continue to post until the thread is locked. But their messages are still there permanently.

You do realize the op is talking about the comment history which is not the same as the post history. Comment history shows everything, including deleted content. Post history does not.

It still falls under the same category.

Post history that you can't even delete would set users up for trolling and harassement. We should at least be able to make our post history privat.

The people who are against users being able to delete their post history,

Comment history NOT post history.

That's like wanting to remove something you gave to say a newspaper and then changed your mind and wanting them to unprint it. YOUR post history is different. Commenting on someone elses profile means it's on their profile. If you may change your mind at a later date don't post on others profiles.

Oh and I'm a private person. Gave my nice a mouthful last year because she came round all high an mighty complaining I hadn't told her I had Cancer. I'd known for less that 24 hours. Only knew about it when I went for a follow up after surgery to remove a non cancerous lump and they told me it was cancerous and they want to remove the rest of my thyroid. Was non cancerous when I had a Biopsy 10 moths previously. Thank Covid for delays

She gave me crap and I gave her a bollocking because Last time I saw her she took a photo and uploaded it to FB.....sorry Meta. Forced her to remove it right there and then. Almost smacked her when I saw she'd uploaded the fact I've got cancer!! Told her to get lost until she realises and respect my right to privacy......2 months later and still no apology. I've told 1 person and 40+ know and have commented on it.

Bottom line, If I posted it that'd be my choice to post it. And if I can't back track because it's now under someone elses control so be it. I made that decision just like I have know and included in this post. Be different if someone else does. If you might not want others to see stuff DO NOT post it, upload it, scream and shout it to the world. If you don't like it afterwards it's your fault.

Sometimes it’s stuff others have posted on your thread which is the reason you want to delete it.

Also comment history and post history are basically the same thing. Comment history includes post history.
