About the Profanity Filter on Profiles
I submitted a couple support requests about this and was eventually told to make a post about it here. I have to say, this is not cool, and it's not ok. I completely understand and respect the reasons for the filter in the public and community forums, but in regards to individual profiles, it's gotta go, or at least be optionable. personally I'm a grown man & I'm the only one that even comments on my profile and mainly I do so for venting and to amuse myself; now a lot of my posts have hearts and it degrades my experience, considering this whole platform and application is built around personal entertainment.

I understand the need to "clean up the community" and so forth, but a blanket policy like this is unfair. I shouldn't be censored on my own profile, and if someone with delicate sensibilities comes along and is offended by something I've said, well, too bad deal with it this is a video game store if you can't handle seeing someone talking reckless ON THEIR OWN page, then you're in the wrong place to begin with. Another option could be to designate certain profiles as potentially NSFW or whatever. Nevertheless, this profile filter isn't right and the illustrious and beloved steam support team needs to fix this. Thanks.

Grown man or not you agreed to the Steam rules on what users can post anywhere all that has changed since you agreed to it is they have decided they need to activate the automated enforcement of those rules because users were abusing the leeway there too much for it to be left to the human element to enforce anymore.

Valve has a set of rules, and as you can see, they do cover everywhere on Steam "These guidelines apply to all places in the Steam Store and Community where users can post content."

"Your" profile is hosted on Valves site, so they can make the rules as they please, nothing unfair about that.

I personally have no problem with the censorship assuming how it makes other trash talking users look moronic. Tho some copypastes that i had saved are now messed up...

Plus, some people use swearing to abuse other people and it can often be on their walls.

A crackdown on swearing is long overdue - especially when it blends into abuse.

Lol alright. look, if it went unhearted before and its for my own amusement, then it shouldn't be an issue. or at least flag profiles as potentially nsfw so people don't have to feel censored. but ok..i see now..steam has become a bunch of blind defenders with delicate sensibilities. Nvm then

Oh well, just go to a different gaming platform?

you're missing the whole point but its cute how you're tryin to tell me to kick rocks when I'm not the overly sensitive cry baby who just can't stand to see other people swear or say "mean things" (even on their own profiles..god forbid..and yes, while it is hosted on steam it is still My profile) and has to be the morality police on a video game application which offers incredibly graphic video games in terms of language, sex, violence, etc. but whatever I guess you just gotta adapt to the lameness these days

Did you ever read the SSA?
https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

Valve can take/delete "your" profile if they see any reason to do it, so you actually do not own the profile at all.

got to love how all these oh so mature grown men so quickly start accusing other people of being crybabys while doing nothing but whine and moan like toddlers that have been told they can't have a cookie
Heraclius Caesar 2018 年 8 月 11 日 下午 1:21
i didn't say i owned it, but yes it is mine to the extent of personality, flavor, content, etc. but anyway, none of you are going to denigrate this valid issue in my eyes. it's excessive censorship, and i'm not the only 1 who strongly disagrees with it in terms of individual profiles. I'm done with this thread, i'm not going to be talked down to by overly sensitive cats about a legitimate issue. if a mod wants to close the thread, have at it. Peace

As long you keep it within the rules, absolutely, and the rules say no abusive language or swearing.

A lot of users did not manage that, that's probably why it's now filtered.

Right, it's the others that are overly sensitive here.

lol alright. yea it is actually but i wasn't looking for a heated debate nor to catch attitude from anyone. im just going to say this then i'll unsubscribe and thats that. this is a blanket policy and its excessive censorship on individual users. its also somewhat hypocritical to eagerly sell video games full of graphic and explicit language, sexual content, violence, etc. and then turn around and judge and censor users should they so happen to have some explicit language or risque screenshots (from the video games) on their profile. if this is just going to be the way of things now then whatever i personally dont agree with it, i believe its a lame and weak move, there were and are other options, but it is what it is. Peace

Yeh, but in a few months it will all be forgotten and everyone will be used to it.

No damage done.

Holy sh*t some of the replies to this thread actually question the meaning of existance for I am the same species as these people

Good thread and well thought out argument/suggestion on OP's end, I 100% agree with just about everything said. The rest of you though are approaching this thing from such an unreasonably passive viewpoint that it is hilariously sad.

Obviously OP doesn't mean he thinks he has a right to being able to disable the profanity filter, he is literally just making a suggestion to valve and is expecting to hear what other people think about the issue. If you disagree that the filter should be optional/removed then what you should be saying (in order to make any sense at all) is "I personally don't appreciate it when I am browsing through someone else's profile and I come across profanity, it makes me uncomfortable."

A good example is this post:
I personally have no problem with the censorship assuming how it makes other trash talking users look moronic. Tho some copypastes that i had saved are now messed up...

Not "VALVE CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT SHUT UP YOU HAVE NO RIGHT SIT DOWN AND ACCEPT IT YOU DOG"

(This is not a personal attack on any of the quoted users themselves, I'm just pointing out the flaws in their arguments)
