Metadata for non-steam games and apps
I would really love a way to customize the library entry of non-steam games and apps besides title, icon and tile picture.

Would love to have a description (short and/or long), background image, list of friends I know own the app/game in question, link to rss news feed. Probably more.

Have I missed anything? Post more suggestions please!

Can one or more of these things already be done? Please point me in the right direction in that case.

So, more support for non-Steam games?

:qr:
You're essentially wanting official looking library entries for non steam games?

More or less. Though, to clarify, I am not asking for Valve or anyone else to make them for me, I am only asking for the possibility to input this information on my own.

See, I use PLEX for my media library, and one of the great things about that is that I can add my own metadata for basically everything (posters, art, descriptions, etc). To relate this to what I'm asking for in my post, this means I can have my home videos look super legit with my own posters, descriptions, cast, etc.

I'm not saying Steam should have full customisation, but just enough customisation to make my game library look like it's mine.

I realise most of the suggestions in my post would require new UI in the library, and I only added those suggestions because I think the library should have those UI elements in the library already for all games and apps (including yes-steam apps and games).
Well i think the reason those features aren't available is because they're non-steam games. They give just enough wiggle room with them that allows the game to be played with the steam overlay and some basic info, which is just about all that is required from a non steam game. An analogy would be Valve allowing someone to post a lemonade stand directly outside, right next to their own building. That stand operator then wants walls attached from the stand to Valve's building, having a sign posted that the stand is part of valve's building, when in fact it is not. Gabe peeks his head out the window and says "Hey, u can have the stand there, but no walls connecting it to the build, nor telling people this is part of our building, we're just letting you use our space for your own product (or game in this case).

Pretty much they're giving you the ability to tie in your non steam game so others can see you playing, but that's just about it.

I think your analogy falls apart in this case because I am the only one that would see this information, as it would be local to my personal computer only. I'm only asking for Valve to give steam the neccessary features to let me personalise the way my game library is presented to me.

I guess you could also argue that this would put steam in a more competitive position with all the "everything-launchers" that are popping up everywhere these days.

While that's true that only you would see it, it is still valve's building, or in this case platform. If they feel that a game that wasn't purchased on their platform should not have the metadata available, then that is pretty much their choice. Sure, the suggestion does no harm that I can think of , but it does boil down to if valve would be comfortable with that and if they feel it is worthwhile to do the changes.

That would be better but it's impossible steam must make another server for another steam appi doll and that why every game has its own server and this servers actually cost 300-400$ so steam would have to take another 150$ to host the server the whole operation would take about also steam don't know what game it is so it does not know about its files so you wouldn't be able to play online message friends open ingame steam menu but you can do it yourself too just change the appidll to 480 and here it is. More support for your offline games offline game will become online but you may get banned because of playing online for free and having that games every event. If you want more info reply.
