Change Steam account name

Xbox users have had the option for over a decade. Now that Playstation users will be getting the option I believe it is ridiculous for Steam users to still not have this feature.

LIVE and PSN use your account name also as your display name. You can change your display name at will on Steam for a long time.

With the ability to freely change your profile name. Not being able to change your login name becomes a way less pressing issue. Other than some exceptions like having choosed an edgy Steam username or being a no longer exisisting email account.

We'd still be facing the issue of unique usernames ('This username has already been taken, please choose another), which is a non issue for public profile names.

It's not really the cost to make it an option, it's the fact that even a tiny error in propogating the change through their various systems could completely break someones account, which would be both costly and time consuming to fix not just the account, but troublleshooting what went wrong and trying to fix it.

I can hear already all the 'I CAN'T LOG INTO STEAM, WHERE ARE MY GAMES!!!' complaints from here.
People already scream bloody murder when the store is down for an hour. Imagine days or weeks of blackout.
