Legacy Steam.
Hi!

I'm using steam since it ever came out in ... what, 2004?
That means, yer, I got winXP era games on steam!

Now, I heard Steam will or has dropped WinXP steam support.
What will happen to all my WinXP era games?
I'm quite sure a LOT of them are not optimised for Win10 and honestly, I don't want to go back to Win Vista, 7, 8 era.

Please, Valve, do create a WinXP Legacy version of steam.
I have 250+ games in my list which... yes.. most I've never even played yet.
I'm willing to configure a WinXP system, no problem. Just let us have acces to the lastest stable WinXP sersion of steam, so I can still acces these games and I don't love hunderds of Euro's.

Thanks a bunch!

Ps. Asking me to contact ALL the different devs to port their games to be Win10 compatible would be madness, don't you agree? Besides. GameDev studio's open and close like camera shutters, these days. A lot of devs from these games would be out of business. ty for your understanding ^^

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player is a game who does not work well with new OS due to unknown reasons. Forum states about solutions about anti virus or compatibility mode. Case is I can put the game playing well at an old laptop with Windows 10, but not at a old desktop with Windows 7. That old PC has a dual boot with XP, and of course at XP Steam does not run. I had there and old copy of Steam folder I could used to play the game offline. But got the update and now it is gone. An offline version of Steam would be enough for this case. I can now see the advantage to having real CD game versus online cloud purchases. Cause if I had the Dark Messiah of Might & Magic CD I could now have installed. That is all users want: be able to install and play. I have Steam working well with Windows 7 and 10 at others PC, but for old gold versions of games, who are masters pieces even if not technological new, Valve should look into a solution for offline play even at Windows XP. I just hope it has not became one of those too big corporations who stop listening.
Haven't had one I can't run yet. If you have issues use search for the workworkarounds.

Are you stating two laptops or one?

If you're stating two, then you it's safe to say one is far too underpowered or lacking in resources, to handle the task which explains your issue, if it's not the cpu usage issue, then it's safe for me to assume it's the ram amount issue.

I'm pretty sure the game runs on Windows 10, but I can ask someone to test it out for you if you want.

Windows 10 can emulate previous versions of windows such as Windows XP service pack 2 through compatibility menu. There should be no issue.

Not quite, but it can apply various compatibility shims to the running program to fix specific changes.

Me also I had not found yet one, until this case of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player at a Windows 7. The forum workarounds have always worked before.

With help I was able today to set an old Steam version working with Windows XP and installed this game Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player, and it works quite well there, no issues and very fast. This XP PC is a Pentium 4 a 3.0 GHz with and old but good AGP graphics.
