Hello All

Before i get to the point, for those who are too young to know, for whatever reason oblivious or those with love for PES 06 back in the day may find interesting/refreshing, ive decided to give a little history that is relevant. For those lazy mo fo's who can't be arsed reading, Although its all relevant and interesting, its not a vital read to be able to play pes06 online and even link to Steam and yes, Windows 10 is not a problem.


Also it HAS to be said, although i say the BEST for playability where football games are concerned is PES 06, there Is 1 definite Exception:-

Sensible WORLD of soccer aka SWOS

a hugely improved version of original Sensible Soccer (mega drive/Amiga/pc/Atari/acorn) where the playability was greatly improved with 1 major feature that stood out (being mainly Goalkeepers that could actually save the ball. Added gfx of dugouts, moving crowds with Better sound you'd experience if you had an Amiga, model at least 1200 or pc with enough ram otherwise the crowds were static. Last but not least there was also the genius move of turning it into a management game with every single team in the world, you could be player/manager so playing the game wasn't effected but once you got good at it, it was great fun starting a career with a really small team, eventually gaining money, buying better faster players (fully noticeable in gameplay) winning cups, getting promoted eventually winning the premier league and European cup (i done this various times with the smallest of Scottish clubs, i made Arbroath the most successful, expensive team in the game lol)

you could buy SWOS through the xbox360 store. I imagine this wouldve involved online play. For me an old school joystick is the only way you could play this game properly, so wasn't motivated to obtain a 360 only to be forced to play SWOS using a Joypad.

SWOS was programmed and released by the same legends who created Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto, and more, Originating in the small city of Dundee - anyone who's never played the very first GTA should really give it a bash on the pc, its SO playable and really funny

2005/06 - The Dawn of a new era:-

Pes06 was a perfect upgrade from pes04 with Pes05 OK but gameplay a big disappointment considering Pes04, many stuck with pes04 using a chat app "pes launcher" to play online games. Pes06 had the same excellent gameplay of 04, only better. PC and PS2 players quickly fell in love with this game.

- the flagship football game for the first Full HD games console - The xbox360. On the 360 it was more polished with fancier menus but thankfully the gameplay was 99.999999% same as PC/PS2

- the first PES game (and only game i know of) that could be played online multi platform between PS2 and PC players as the game was identical between the 2. Of course with the 360 you were stuck with Xbox live yet the more polished version of the game would never be compatible with pc/ps2 players anyway (for the record the pc/ps2 online interface was way better and more practical than the 360's)

At the time, PES 06 was THE football game and VERY competitive - everyone loved it


This was really a unique game at a special time:-


Besides the official PES06 tournament (won atleast twice [im 99.9% sure on that one]by a young Scotsman, username of a pes launcher regular, a young scot going by "Wallace". His photo, him wearing a rangers top (nobodys perfect) was on the inside slip of the retail box after x amount months once the tournament was played. i knew him through pes launcher.

Many pubs/clubs would regularly have pes 6 tournaments, which was a new thing for any game (especially for pubs and so public) my local boozer "Harlequins" at the time, who before done nothing more than a weekly karaoke, had 2 nights a week where a PS2 was setup through the boozer's nice new plasma. Players would pay £2 to enter (half the admission fees and a free drink being the prize – you were usually looking at at least 20 quid, one night the place was PACKED, loadsa drunks who never even played games were entering, prize was over £100 as a result). You'd pick your team from a hat, ranging from mostly decent and a few bigger teams like inter etc – ironically most of those who picked the top teams never got very far!) I always liked getting a team like Leon and be up against someone with Inter or the like as their confidence in having a ♥♥♥♥ hot team was always their downfall! I would go now and again, i did hear on a few occasions disagreements and fights breaking out between drunken players/losers - an example of how competitive this game really was, and is!



This post has taken me a long time to get right with minimal tangents, not to mention spellchecking, so i shall make a new post soon how PES06 is not dead, it took a month on and off investigating until i finally found the PES06 underground which you can join and play casual, with your stats building up in game as usual or take part in Leagues/Cups by the creators/mods of the server

I cant tell you the painstaking time and hit miss effort getting this to work, but now that i know, its VERY simple. When i first played it i thought "hmmmmm" given the gfx but before i even worked out how to overcome the 4:3 problem, i very soon realised its greatness. Ye don't worry about it being a stretched 4:3 picture when playing, its a very simple in game option U can change to make it 16:9


Ill post back soon. Id like to get a Steam Pes06 community on the go. Pes especially, but football games in general now are more simulation than anything else. The better the graphics get its seems year after year the gameplay as a single entity goes down and down while all the fancy features and controls fill the void, especially for young players who don't know any different. PES nowadays is REALLY bad, the mediocre gameplay is nothing compared to the Joke of an interface, and how y9ur forced to do all this ♥♥♥♥ to play online. The past 2 PES games including the current one always end up becoming free on steam. As far as modern football;l games (more like simulators) go, FIFA is way better. PES is like a half assed put together game thrown into steam to make some money.


But I have salvation for those who have lost belief in a decent playable football game.

Keep a look out for Thread with full SIMPLE instructions to get pes06 up and running online AND U can even link it to steam as a non steam game so U have the usual in game steam features if they are any use to you

PS – Its all legal and wont mess up your steam, also isn't necessary to link to steam, I personally do it, just so people can see im playing PES06 lol
