2. Play the game until you get to a new check point. Save, close and log out of Steam.
3. Login again and turn on Steam Cloud for the game.
4. Start the game. It will ask you if you want to use the Cloud files or not. Choose not to use the Cloud saves.
Actually, that's why I first unticked the cloud, hoping to create a conflict between the Steam cloud save and the local save. But at least for some games, it doesn't work. :(
The game didn't have the ability to delete saves in-game and manually deleting them didn't work either. I don't remember all the details but no regular solution worked so I had to force the sync conflict dialog by using a Powershell command to corrupt all the local save files without deleting or changes their name. So while the conflict dialog was up, I manually deleted all the
save files and then choose the option to upload the local saves to the cloud (which basically removed all the cloud saves with nothing).
So a simpler way of doing this would be a nice feature.
- Launch the game
- Alt-tab to the desktop
- Browse to the game's folder and manually delete the save files
- Alt-tab to the game, and quit normally
Because the erasure of save data happened while the game was running, Steam Cloud should assume it was valid and accept the changes.
