Underground Mining Game?

I am looking for a recommendation for a good mining game. I mean a realistic mining game. One involving underground mines...

- the need to follow veins / placers
- the ability to drill / explode the tunnel as you see fit.
- the ability to drill core samples.
edit: also needing to shore up walls and ceilings so cave ins don't happen. And being able to use Stopes to mine upwards and allow the material to fall.

Any such game exists? If not, who wants to help me develop it. :P


It would be cool to have the ability to start off with a pickaxe and mine by hand. Then upgrade to drills, and dynamite, and minecarts... then upgrade to machines?

Minecraft is hardly realistic... plus gravity isn't an issue in minecraft.

TerraFirmaCraft is the only thing that comes to mind. Yes it is a Minecraft overhaul mod, but it isn't like any other mod. This one mod changes the game in almost every way possible. You want massive caves to explore for mining: http://i.imgur.com/xNDLd.jpg that is what you get. Just make sure you bring lots of support beams with you becasue breaking the wrong rock will bring all of that crashing down on top of you.

There is a reason games like this dont exist, simulating the real world in such a realistic way would be way to demanding and impossible on current hardware. About as close as you are going to get is a deformation system like space engineers. But simulating things like caves ins with a deformation system like space engineers on a large scale? Impossible for now.

This is a surprisingly compelling game. I started playing it this afternoon and am having a lot of fun with it.

Hard to get the saloon even open though.
