Steam app feature - gift card bar code scanner
Or something similar. I realize there are issues with the exposed bar code being what gets scanned but maybe some OCR reader for the pin? This would come in handy when you have a lot of the cards to enter.

The store I buy them at gives me rewards points for gas. It also only sells Steam cards in $20 increments.

Would a cheap USB barcode scanner like this work with the desktop client?

I'd call the company you buy from and request that they also start carrying the version of the Steam gift cards where you can pay as much as you want and it's loaded onto the card. Maybe even send a message to steam to ask them to send the offer to the company? If they already stock steam cards, makes sense they might start stocking the variable-amount steam cards, which can be loaded with 20 bucks as well.
Yes, this could work as well. What I've proposed is a feature for the situation I've described. More of a "cool factor" feature than anything. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Yep. That would work very well with a desktop client or any other platform that allowed that kind of connection. Unfortunately, with most handheld devices this isn't an option. We actually use something similar in the application that I work on for Windows desktops.

You could always wire it up using a USB OTG adapter, it is just a keyboard as far as your system knows...
