Valve can port it! (?) (Civilization I and II)
I dunno if you guys talked about it in a previous thread, but...

Could Valve find some way to port Civilization II into their Steam library? I'm starting to collect the entire Civilization saga, initially owned V, and after some sales and refunds, bought III and IV both with their expansions, but i'm kinda sad that i cannot get Civ I and II on my hands, cuz if i do, only Beyond Earth and VI will remain. Not to forget also Call to Power, it sequel and MAYBE Alpha Centauri.

Now, you would say that it wouldn't be possible, since Civ II's interface is attached to Windows (You know what i do mean by that), so, for some reason, i guess it will not work anymore on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10. And you're right! I remember playing it before online with a Russian riend, had Windows 7 and it worked pretty well, but now... i must say goodbye to play it, even if i download it from the internet (Yaar!). I've heard some rumors that G2A has it as a illegimate copy for sale, but i wouldn't be so sure.

I have something that might give a good argument, and it is that Valve somehow ported some old DOS games via DOSBox, and my living proof is that i have an old "Pirates!" DOS game that i've bought by mistake believing it was the Sid Meier's newest one, and also X-COM: UFO Defense. So, in that case, AT LEAST Civilization I would be on sale. Believe me, there's nothing really pleasuring when talking about games, as having the complete saga of a videogame franchise in your Steam library, and i am achieving it with Civ, and also with XCOM and X-COM. (Yeah, i LOVE turn-based strategy games, go ahead, sue me xD).

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Speople to the publisher that owns the rights to the games.

Ask the owners of the IP. They control this kind of thing 100%. If they do not wish to do ports, ports will not happen legally / officially. Asking another game company to do it for them is basically saying "please steal this IP and produce it for us!". They can't.

So basically what you're saying is that: If Valve doesn't owns the game rights, which they have to purchase from the original developers, they couldn't have any right to port the game in their platform?

MicroPROSE, that's what I and II have in common, i dunno who currently runs it, or i think it's defunct and the rights are now for Sid Meier, right?
