Real Name Request For Steam Friends
I cannot for the life of me remember the real names of the people I've added on Steam. I love what PSN offers with friend requests - in addition to just sending a friend request, you can send a "real name request" along with it. I would love to see a similar system implemented in Steam.

That can be inserted on a user's profile using the options to do so.

Some users don't want you to see it - hence they won't add it.

Adding friend, add nickname same time. My friends train friends have this tag.
Helps me determine beggers pretty quickly.

You have no need to know my real name. If/when I think you need it I will tell you it. I do not put my real info into places unless they actually need it. There are some friends I have, that I have no idea what their real names are, and they have no idea what mine is and we have been friends for years.

Also what stops them from putting in a fake name.... requesting a "real name" doesn't actually mean you will get a real name, there is no way for Valve to know if its a real name or not. Just like requesting a reason they are trying to add you as a friend doesn't actually mean they are telling you the truth. This is why requests like these are pointless waste of a Steam programmers time.

Why do you all judge something negative and not read carefully what the author is asking for?

He doesn't want to know your real name:omfg:
He's simply wondering and requesting for an option to come along with the steam username, the real name (IF THE PERSON HAS IT LISTED) when he's searching for people that he may know of.

H when he's searching for people that he may know of.

In the original post, no one mentioned anything about that, neither was it implied.

Everything said pertained to requests (friend invites) - nothing to do with the database and search queries.

Nope, people who need to now my real name will get it from me, not something random strangers should be able to leach out when they spam friends-requests.

Let's see if that feature in PSN will survive the new privacy rules made by EU, I doubt it.

If it's listed on the profile he can see it there before requesting to be friends, if the profile is friends only/private he has no need to know it, unless he get's accepted as a friend.

No, you shouldn't be requesting real names from people you don't know in person. Even if i like you I would still think that was a very creepy thing to do and I would probably block you.

You can add "Nicknames" to users where you can add anything you want. If you know a persons real name, add it as thier "Nickname"

only you can ever see it so its not a big rpblem
