The Steam abuse/harassment system *seems* inappropriate
Hi,

I did try and feedback before, but the thread got trolled and then deleted.

Anyway, I just want to highlight this:
Reporting a Steam user for abusive behavior
If you are experiencing harrassment by another Steam user or have witnessed abusive behavior you can report the user to Steam Support by doing the following:
1. Navigate to the user's Steam Community profile. You can locate a user's profile by searching here.
2. Select the large "More" button in the upper-right corner of the user's profile.
3. Select "Report Violation" and then choose a category fitting the issue you experienced and a brief description of what happened.
Abuse reports are reviewed by Steam Support and appropriate action is taken against the involved Steam accounts. Please make sure to use abuse reports to report a user's behavior rather than attempting to directly contact Steam Support so your report can be compared to others.

I just want to feedback my opinion - hopefully without being trolled.

I have used this system to report a user before - hence attracting people who kept spamming me to do what I had already done until the thread was deleted.

The point being is this, can we not move the report mechanism to Steam Support?

My main reasons for that is the Profile report option gives us a crummy little box to type in - this is fine for reporting moderation issues, but it is a bit limiting for reporting harassment/abuse issues that are beyond forum level.

The problem with reporting harassment this way is the Report goes 'into the ether' - ie it is a one-way system of reporting. I would prefer serious cases of harassment/abuse, etc to have a two-way process like there would be with Steam Support for other issues.

So, in a nutshell, I'd prefer this process to be part of the Steam Support mechanism, rather than being routed to Steam Support via a what is effectively a moderation mechanism.

This next bit worries me:
so your report can be compared to others
^ Some things that are being reported are factual statements - a threat made by a Steam user to find and harm another Steam user is factual - it doesn't need comparing to anything.

If a user has posted things on multiple occasions along the lines of they are going to find another Steam user and bash their skull in, shut them up for good, etc, then it is pretty much catagoric.

Why are other Steam users expected to keep reporting someone like this?

When someone posts statements on Steam, Steam moderators/Support can see this information - it is catagoric.

In a nutshell, I don't get why reports of threats are not a two-way process with Steam. I don't understand why there is confusion about having a zero tolerance of these people - especially repeat offenders.

You can type up your report in a program like Notepad or MS Word before copy-pasting it in the report box. I grab links to topics/posts that are pretty damning as evidence, upload screenshots into an unlisted album on Imgur, and put the link(s) in the report.

I've gotten 12 community messages so far this year; 2 for multiple profiles being punished and the rest for individual profiles being punished.

My report was pretty brief - because I assumed that obvious was obvious.

Is a 'community message' some kind of feedback from Steam?

A community message is something we receive regarding moderation actions, either towards ourselves or against other users due to our reports.

Reports should provide as much information as possible; you have a much higher chance of getting a rulebreaker banned that way,

If it's harassment outside forum, then you have to report to developer of the game, or if it's in real world, go to the police, Valve only moderate misbehaviour on their forum/platform.

As I told you in the other topic, it take two to fight, how about turning your back to toxic postings and not continue to feed the abuser (it's actually against the rules to "fight back"), that way the drama will die out.

The feeder is just as bad as the abuser imo.

I wish you would stop making your bizarre posts.

Agreed. I know a few users who keep seeking out drama-riddled topics or game hubs and then later complain that they are being harassed.

I'm just telling you the facts, you don't like that, not my problem.

Exactly, and that is a pain in the behind for everyone else in that forum.

If you “say” you want feedback don’t immediately then dismiss all feedback that you don’t like

I am not asking for feedback from the forum clowns. I'm using the forum correctly to just feedback my opinon to Steam.

The last thread attracted forum clowns who argued everything and got the thread deleted.

This is a public forum not your blog. Deal with opinions. To original post. Report on profile, block, move on. Stop interacting with those users since you only feed them.
Reports will be reviewed in time. Not always as you hope.
And never report more than once, since that put your report at the end of the que to be reviewed.

This is a public forum, all topics are open for all who stay ontopic and don't break the rules.

Well, I assumed it was a Suggestions / Ideas forum for this sort of thing.

That is why I posted here and not in Steam Discussions etc.

Theres nothing strange about his posts your reactions to them on the other hand make you seem a little like you are very quick to act like you are being attacked and have a low tolerance for views that don't agree with you. Both those habits can lead to yourself being involved in more arguments and if you report a lot because of it can also mean you may have been put on a list of known false reporters who don't get as much if any attention paid to the reports they make because of it.
