Isn't it time that valve makes an 18+ section?
This mess that valve made could have been avoided if they simply had a 18+ section where more mature, adult or questionable content could go and it is default blocked until proof of age. A simple age gate or even a little more stringent requirement to prove they are old enough would be enough. What valve is doing now is just pissing everyone off, does not make any sense because it is clearly discriminated by selectively enforcing it, when other bigger games have the same or worse content but they get a free pass. The average gamer is 35 and not kids anymore, we need a place to get games that can cater to our age demographic. Please valve, stop trying to be the morale police, we do not want censorship. Creating an 18+ section would be the best solution that would solve everyone's issues in my opinion.

Sure, but the discussion is on the general concept, not loli.

And where exactly on Steam is this alleged "loli porn"? Because I don't believe any has been pointed to or even mentioned directly, so far, beyond "Durr, teh loli gaemz!"

What we've got, are adult visual novels / anime-themed games that cannot be purchased without either PayPal or a credit card, both of which a child should not have unrestricted access to, and the games themselves contain 18+ characters only, unless the content isn't actually sexual. In other words, "lolis" and "porn" do not coincide. If you can prove otherwise, by all means do so.

From all the evidence (or lack thereof) that I've seen, though, the whole "pedo porn" claim seems to be largely a fabrication and wilful misrepresentation perpetrated by MiM to put pressure on PayPal to in turn put pressure on Steam to put pressure on developers, one long relay race of bullcrap being passed from one to the other while MiM sits and giggles in the background. It really isn't the devs', Valve's or fans' problem if you "feel" that an anime character in a game with that art style "looks too young" for you to be "comfortable" and it starts getting "problematic". You may as well say "the characters in Futurama look too young, yet are shown or implied to be having sex, so that's loli porn".

I don't agree with you or anyone dictating, although on that subject alone... It depends, anime lolis are characters that may vary in age and may be adults and are just anime characters, you don't have to play. In real life, I look much younger than my age, and I have known other people around my age that look around 12, it isn't our fault that we look like this and not all of us want a dude with loli fetish.
Yeah, you can have an 18-year-old or 20+ or 30+ woman dressed in the loli style, which works easily in anime and could no doubt work IRL too if she's asian (and quite possibly if she's not). And also, naturally, not every woman wants to look like a lolita, even if she happens to look younger than her age. To each their own, yeah?
Make your age verified via - Credit card. Hide section until you save it, after you do, let there be a warning that the section unlock for you.

Most of us who buy trough Steam have info already saved anyway, and it's the best way how to vilidate your age i think. Yes it's still be worked around, but its WAAAY better system then "You are 18+ old? Yes/no" ...

I mean i would love adult games for Steam! Judge me as you wish, but they are already here, won't name them so Steam wont hunt them down, but common! Adult gaming have the same market as normal one, alot of good artist's, developers, and such who do these kind of games benifit alot from EA here, and let alone, they have to be beggars on Patreon, when doing great job, and the games have alot of times more value then 80% of games on Steam. Again can't name them, but there are alot of great adult games which diserve attention for adult audience as well!

Does PayPal permit its services for any purpose other than payments or subscriptions?
Honestly, I have no clue.

Dropped using them when it became clear PayPal got politicized.
Why does everybody want to give Valve their credit card number?

Because its the best way to verify your age, i am not happy with that, but this could potentialy work if done right.

The same reason you'd give it to any other online retailer?

A credit card number. There are still pre-paid ones available (though apparently there's an extremely strong push to make them dissappear from the usual "if you have nothing to hide" crowd. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.)

I'm going out on a limb and say that most people probably use a credit card in their name already to make the purchase. And if not, that credit card has to be used with permission of the card holder.

Either way, there's your age (or at least permission) verification. Right where it should be. With the parents/guardians, or adults capable of making their own damn decisions.

Yeah that's basicaly solution, and if your kid use the credit card without YOUR PERMISION, it's your fault, not Steam one, so the Steam would be protected, paypal wold be dissabled by default by this, because you cannot confirm the age by this, and this is win =/= win situation for Steam and it's costumers.

If such a "verification" process were to work with "test" credit card numbers would one want to be suspicious?

Problem is, if you report credit card fraud doesn't your Steam account get disabled?

Yeah it does, but thats abou you contanting a support, if you have kid in your family, which use same computer as you do, you have family mode on Steam, and if you let him be on Steam with your credit card info in, you are for A) Bad parent and for B) Not carefull with your credit card ... Which is both on the person not on Valve/Steam.

Why would it?

I mean, aside from the "we can dismiss all your purchases at a whim" EULA, anyway.

Even if somebody made a bunch of fradulent transactions on a long-established Steam account, I don't see a valid reason for Steam not to simply remove the reported titles from specific library and leave it at that.

If it's a repeating pattern, then it's another matter altogether.

I think, problem is, that Steam is not always as helpfull or straight-foward in this situation.
