Valve, Denuvo will be the death of Steam. Do something now!
I make a concious decision to avoid Denuvo games. That is my right. Some people may love, or even lust Denuvo; others may not. That is not the topic of this post. The problem is when sly publishers do not tell their pre-order customers that Denuvo will be used, and when the game is released, it does not have the "3rd party DRM" notice. Rather, the info about Denuvo is buried deep within the EULA fine print written in legalese. This is EXACTLY what Bandai Namco have done with Dragonballs FighterZ.

Now, normally when I buy Steam games I get more than one at a given time. When I see this rotten behaviour by a publisher it completely puts a wet blanket on my shopping spree.

Further, these concerns are driving people away from Steam and on to the console market.

Valve, do you still like money? Or are you now giving charity to Sony, because that's the outcome. Police the Denuvo Mafia PLEASE!

A security company called Irdeto now owns Denuvo.

Sound like an unholy alliance. I wish to avoid Denuvo/Irdeto planned obsolescence rentals, therefore I am relying on Valve to enforce measures that clearly indicate in the store page whether or not 3rd party DRM is used.

Why do publishers hate free market economics so much that they won't let me vote with my feet? If Denuvo is so grand they should be shouting this from the rooftops, not burying it in fine print.
Its kind of amazing that this sentence is constantly uttered

Denuvo/Uplay/Origin/GFWL/Rockstar Social will be the 'death' of steam

Yet seemingly steam is still here despite everyone and their grandmother claiming that somehow some program they don't like that barely even registers as existing on your system is going to 'kill' steam.

Anti-virus detects Denuvo dll files as "Malware", is that good PR? And the fact that publishers are taking their customers for granted is a concern that I think you and Valve are underestimating.

Don't use crappy anti-virus software, and you won't get nearly as many false positives.

You mean Windows Defender?

How do antipiracy measures drive people to the console market?
OP... Listed in the "Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA - DRAGON BALL FighterZ EULA..."

24. THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE.
a) Denuvo. This Game is protected by Denuvo Anti-Tamper technology (“Anti-Tamper Technology”). By installing this Game, you acknowledge and consent that certain files of the Anti-Tamper Technology may remain even after the Game is uninstalled from your computer. For more information, please visit Denuvo’s website.

Right on the store page. That is where the 3rd party DRM is always located if not explicitly listed. Talk to Bandai Namco to put the Denuvo on the store page.

Did you read above "These concerns"?

Even if you did, the main topic of my post is being sidestepped.

As I indicated, some people literally LUST Denuvo, and to be fair that is their choice. I'm merely asking for my right to vote with my feet in a free market economy without the Denuvo politburo thrusting their software upon me by stealth.

Is that ok with you?

Yes, buried deep in the legalese precisely as I described in my initial post.

I have flagged the game for not including the "3rd party DRM" notice, not sure how I would even start a constructive dialogue with them in the first place to get them to do the right thing. That seems like an opportunity for Valve to look after its customers.

They have met the requirements as they have listed it in their own EULA. It is the users responsibility to read any and all listed agreements before they make a decision on whether or not they want to purchase the product. Failing to do so is not the fault of the store front or the publisher as they have fulfilled their obligations to inform the potential purchasers of any extra DRM in their products.

Well if the Gruen Transfer snares a customer that made the common mistake of clicking "ok, ok, etc" to dialogue boxes then that's rather cruel, sorry to say.

So, this begs the question: some publishers use the "3rd party DRM" notice, and this game doesn't. What's the point of the notice? Doesn't DBFZ not displaying the notice set a precedent for the other publishers to abandon the notice?
By the way, there is no such thing as a "Denuvo DLL" - looking at for instance my Sonic Forces executable folder I see two files - "Sonic forces.exe" and steam_api64.dll. The latter is provided by Valve as part of the Steam API that both the game and Denuvo depend on.
If Windows Defender is causing trouble with a DLL file make sure to remove any third-party DLLs from your game folder, verify the game cache (assuming you actually own the game), and try again.
