Add a message to the password reset page that mentions that you will recieve a 5-30 day trade ban for doing so
I'm sure that there are other areas of steam that require this treatment aswell, but in a recent atempt to change my password, I reset it instead (yeah, there's a difference somehow). Because of this, I've now found myself with a 5 day trade ban that I was given no indication would be the case.

One thread was enough, particularly the thread where you've gotten told why this exists.

It's not a ban, also. And it's never a "30" day ban as far as I know. Unless you KEEP changing your password.

I'm posting a thread here, as it is genuinely a feature I wish was in place. I posted in Help & Tips because I wanted an explination.

I've since read other's expireinces with it, and found that it is a 30 day ban if the account has been inactive for an extended period of time.

Lastly, I believe that the term 'Ban' is a reasonable one. I am not able to trade whatsoever, for the next 5 days. What about that is not a ban?

It is a restriction and not a ban.

All trading and market restrictions, what causes them and how to avoid them...

Allright, thanks for that. Bit late, but thanks anyway.

Also, in my understanding, a restriction is something that partially or entirely prohibits an action. A ban something that entirely prohibits an action.

Using that definition, I'm going to use the term 'Ban'.

A ban is something intended as punishment.

Restriction is not.

Restrictions are for the protection of the users and Valve.

A ban is a punishment for doing something wrong.

Allright, take the exampe of a 'Fire Ban'. Who has done something that deserves punishment? Is going camping in summer something that is deserving of a punishment?

Fire ban is a warning for punishment if ignored.

If changing your password stops you being able to trade for 30 days, then yes they should tell you about it. Almost all the replies are off-topic arguing about him using the wrong word..

1. Only 1 place allows you to change it, Steam > Settings > Account >>> Change password

2. The other 2 places is a reset as they both link you here... https://imgur.com/a/sjNVMYA

He did #2.

So what are you proposing

"Hey you're locked out of your account and dont know your password. Well if you reset it you will incur a trading cooldown, obviously you dont CARE ABOUT THIS because you're currently locked out, and its not like you have a choice since DUH you forgot your password so, here is a redundant message that you won't read anyway and even if you did, you're still going to reset your password because you know YOU DONT KNOW IT"

<Yes> <No> <WTF DONT GIVE ME A COOLDOWN ILL JUST STARE AT MY SCREEN INSTEAD>
touc Jul 24, 2019 @ 7:37am
But thats the thing, I DO know my previous password, and did not want to reset it, and simply wanted to change it. So what I'm proposing, is to merge the two pages for 'Reset' and 'Change' password to one and add a question as to whether or not you know your previous password.
