Most people still don't know about that, it's not implemented.
From what I see "micro-trailers" is also pretty pointless because it often just shows CGI trailers. Why can't steam pay REAL PEOPLE to do this stuff exactly, why do they need automated machine learning nonsense?
Steam makes hundreds of millions in revenue a year (or far more), they can't pay some people to do this stuff?
The system already recommends games similar to those you play based on the userbases judgements and that is all it can be.
If they are taking 30% of every purchase, yes they do.
Not on everything, no.
Like I say if a game isn't being promoted it isn't the shops it is being sold out that should shoulder the blame that lies with the people whose job it is to promote the games and if they can't be bothered to do it then they don't have what it takes to survive in the business.
It’s literally an announcement you get notified in the client And on the browser. And is literally a giant banner at the top of the store page
The difficulty in getting noticed on Steam is a huge issues for indie developers, if Steam don't want to address that then they are going to regret it later.
I checked the mini trailers, they are almost all terrible with cgi nonsense or some guy talking, because they are all created automatically.
Valve can't even pay someone to do this work and have to make an automated system when they are a billion dollar company.
They pay more for snacks in the canteen than they paid on that system.
I am so glad this is optional.
As for Steam promoting games, please no, let me decide for myself, this "improving user experience" stuff Valve's into really isn't improving anything for me...
Promoting means "here look at these new games that are similar to other games you bought in the past it's not you must buy these new games.
Well no, I don't want that in my face. If I want it, I'll look for it.
The difference thusly boils down to the developers/publishers doing their part in promoting their game to their target audience and making a good game. Once these conditions are met the dev/pub will always do well. If these conditions are not met then the game can easily fade into the background noise.
STeam already does thism, in particular it looks at the games you've spent the most time in over the last few weeks, what games you actually have installed, and what store pages you've been looking at.
No its actually right. Thats what competition means. The customer has limited money and time, its your job to make sure the customer believes your product will be the best use of their time and money. And you're competing against everyone else in the industry.
