Steam overlay widgets
I don't know how commonly people use the steam overlay, and I know that in many cases people just outright disable it because it can cause issues with running some games, but I tend to use it on a regular basis for the browser (and a couple of other features). I might use the browser to google for a wiki page or a guide, but I also sometimes use the browser for menial tasks like a calculator, jot down a quick note in an online notepad, or search up a unit converter.

I would love to have the ability to customize the steam overlay on a per-game basis. Add a button for a notepad widget, that'll actually save the notes that I take for that specific game locally and on the cloud. Add a button for a quick calculator, and maybe even have a feature where certain calculations can be saved and tagged, containing variables that can be swapped out. Add a small section for a list of urls that I can save for quick access (instead of having to search google every time).

This will probably never happen because it'd be a pain to implement and I'm not see many requests for it, but I wanted to add my suggestion to the pile so that at least it's out there.

Agreed, it's a luxury that isn't absolutely necessary, and I'm not saying that there aren't plenty of stand-alone alternatives out there (I've been using them). To be honest, all I really want is some sort of notepad in the overlay where I can leave game-related notes and have them saved in between game sessions. Having to organize my notes into specific folders in my file system, and tabbing out of the game and searching for the relevant notes can get tedious. It's fine if it's rare, but sometimes I need to refer to some notes multiple times per session. Having those notes immediately available to me in the overlay when I launch the game (without me having to search for them on my local drive) would be way handy.

Of course, this doesn't apply to most games out there - fps and strategy games don't need anything like that. I'm talking about some of the more RPG-esque type games where crafting and min-maxing is possible: Kenshi, Stardew Valley, Warframe, Don't Starve, The Elder Scrolls series, and so on.

Your comment "Overall - good idea but I doubt it benefits enough people for Valve to take notice." is spot-on. It won't affect enough people for sure, but it'd affect some, and I'm posting for those.

You could use something online, like google docs or pastebin
Again, yes, I have ways to write stuff down and save it. I'd like it in the overlay. That's why I put this thread into the suggestions section.
