Allow me to hide community/friends activity feed
When I click onto a game I don't care that my friend might have earned 3 achievements on November 2nd or whatever; I don't care that there's a really popular piece of fan art in the community group with a lot of upvotes, and I don't even care that I earned 4 achievements and saved a silly screenshot to the cloud. It's fine enough to post that as an option but I see no reason why that has to be 30 percent of my screen; at least for me seeing my personal acheivements and maybe even my badge and card collection for the game matters WAY more and I'd like to make it so when I click on a game that's the first thing I see, and that should be something we can set as an option.

Well than how are you going to be peer pressured to want "new" and shiny stuff or games. How are you going to know about some "really cool" new games.

Remember that episode of Spongebob with that customer who was only buying Chum brand chum. Steam is kinda like Spongebob tripping over that rock to force the crabby patty into that customers mouth. Someone should make a gif of that..... I would but Im too lazy right now.

Well, the community group stuff can be disabled. Go to Settings, click Library, and then check the box next to "Disable Community Content."

As for the activity feed, I don't think there is any way to hide it yet, but I agree that there needs to be an option to. It's incredibly annoying.

While I'll agree it's a bit obnoxious, part of what Steam is going for is the community aspect, showing people what their friends are up to. At the very least it is a good way for it to demonstrate how it connects people, and that's a good thing. However, even if it's boiled down to just a little icon by the game's name, which with the right settings are all you can see of this, it would still be nice to be able to turn that off entirely, which you can do with Small Mode (though for many it's too minimalistic of a setting). They're trying to respond to requests as best they can, and hopefully they'll implement an option for this soon.
