Seconded.

There just aren't many TVs that are ultrawide. And the fact that the majority of monitors are still 1920x1080, there isn't much need for BP to support it right now.

Is there a need for it? No.

But why not? if they have the manpower and resources available, then they should. Hell, many of Steam's features were seen as a waste of time at first by many, and now they're one of the reasons why we still are using Steam. If anything, they should be increasing their efforts to improve Steam's visual appeal and usability. It's better than it was, but its competitors aren't playing around. There are ultrawide monitors or triple screens large enough to play from a distance, you don't need a ultrawide TV.

Sorry if I came off as rude, I'm just tired of the same "I don't need it, most people don't need it and therefore it shouldn't exist" argument. You shouldn't wait for mass adoption to support new technology, or else there won't be a mass adoption. If supporting them isn't a priority to developers because adoption is low, then it won't ever increase since most people won't buy something that isn't properly supported by so many devs and requires workarounds most of the time. It's a vicious cycle. Valve didn't wait until VR was a thing to jump on board, they MADE it a thing.

BP was designed to be used with TVs, not monitors. Hence, my explanation.

And I did add the caveat at the end of my post, btw.

Yes, I understood that part. But if the monitor is large enough, what difference does it make if it was made for TVs? The OS doesn't make that distinction, they only need to support the new aspect ratio. Just because it was made with something in mind, that doesn't restrict it to supporting only that.

Besides, there are features locked behind Big Picture, like the Disk Management, so it's not like it's entirely optional to use it.

Just saying...

What is Big Picture mode?

Big Picture is a new mode of Steam designed for use with your TV and game controller, so you can enjoy your Steam games from the comfort of your couch...

Now my caveat... "...there isn't much need for BP to support it right now."

That's because they took away List View from the regular client view. But you can still sort your installed games by size and get similar results.

Let me make on thing clear: I am not arguing that ultrawide are widely used, they are not. I know that, and never disagreed about it. I'm really not sure why you are trying to prove something I did not dispute.

My point is:
"Valve, do you think the development of this feature viable enough to add it to you list?"
"Yes - *Valve adds it to their list of upcoming features*
"No, it's too expensive/time consuming - Oh, well."

That's it.

The point about Big Picture's description is also pointless because I know what their initial intention was. My point that there are no laws forbidding it from being used and supported on anything other than TVs, so support for wider spectrum of resolutions and aspect ratios is a valid request. It's still a PC program.

I honestly have no idea why Steam's community love to shoot down feature requests so much. It's like they're trying to keep the client as barebones as possible.

Fair enough, sorry about that. I guess I got carried away, saw way too many threads go nowhere with similar arguments. However, I am just making it known to Valve that there *is* demand for it by saying manifesting my interest here, although I'm aware that is it's not coming anytime soon.
