Yeah... More work. I'd gladly give a case in payment if it means I don't have to do the work.
Then I used Photoshop to put my profile picture over the profile picture that steam.design cropped for me.
That's how I added part of the gun on the bottom of my profile picture.
You can do the same with any background and any profile picture.
I mean, yeah, you can do that, it works, but at the same time I shouldn't have to piss around doing that.
Hotsauce already said why transparent PNGs wouldn't work.
Open your profile page in browser and open Inspect Element.
Delete your profile picture with Inspect Element and you'll see what's behind it.
Even if profile picture was transparent, you would see that instead of background picture.
