"Steam is learning about this game."
Either do away with this trash feature or do your jobs and review these games. There's a ton of games that have been out for ages that steam is still "learning" about. Some of us want to showcase stats and achievements.

"In-app" purchases. That's how.

:qr:
Does that mean a totally free game will no longer be able to exit this status?

No. The In-app purchases count.

It's not being censored. You might want to use a dictionary before using words.

Destiny and PUBG were marketed by their devs/publishers, so they got known. without advertising themselves, noone is going to make an actual hit.

Devs/pubs who just slap a game on Steam and do nothing else, well, they shot themselves. They need to do their own marketing work to get the game known. If not, they stay in the "Learning phase".

Profiles are not promotion or advertising. If you really think a game will get known because it's listed on some profile, then you really are overestimating the worth of profiles. sure, it can get a few players to check it out, but it is not something that you can call promotion.

Steam\s logic with games is not as you say it. It's actually "A game won't be popular if the devs/pubs sit on their asses and do nothing marketingwise". Funny thing is, that is exactly how it works in every store, both digital and brick&mortar. If someone doesn't do branding, they won't get noticed.
Yeah sure let's get mired in semantics of "marketing" "censorship" and "promotion".

All I want, and this is very simple, is to be able to show achievements, stats, and a game's name/icon in my profile. That's it. Call it whatever the hell you want to call it.
And you can, once the game has sold enough copies. Which is possible if the devs/pubs do the part of their job that is related to marketing.

You can cry foul all you want, it doesn't change that devs/pubs are responsible for their own promotion.

Yup. All my f2p visual novels are invisible and looks like are going to stay that way. :steamfacepalm:

This system is idiotic and punishes small up-and-coming studios that only have like 2 people working.

It doesn't.

Vempire, made by 1 man who outsources stuff like music and sounds.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/619230/VEmpire__The_Kings_of_Darkness/

Braid, made by one man

Retro City Rampage, made by 1 man

There are plenty of those. Good game devs still do promotion for their games, it's part of their job. The ones that don't come out the learning phase simply are the ones who don't take that effort (enough).

Braid and RCR:DX were released long before this system was introduced.

Braid and RCR:DX were released long before this system was introduced.
But both easily surpassed the systems requirements by putting in the required effort and giving customers something worth buying for itself not just for something to show off.
greenraven22 2019 年 11 月 29 日 下午 12:24
For every Retro City Rampage or Braid there's a hundred equally good games that just don't get the spotlight recognition.

And again "worth buying" doesn't apply to games that are free to play. And if anything that just incentivises them to make ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mincrotransactions just to meet these asinine requirements.

And again how is a game supposed to promote itself when it's being censored?
You should choose your words wiser, none is censoring anything here.

Not every game is going to be Destiny or PUBG and everyone is going to be talking about Part of that "promoting itself" thing is for players to promote it in their profiles. And we just come back full circle to the whole argument. :steamfacepalm:
You are simply exaggerating the importance of your profile: on Steam, none cares about showcases nor achievements except for a very little minority.
Moreover, a few facts about your persona:
  • At the time I'm writing this, you don't even have a "favorite game" showcase on your profile to "show" any of your over 2000 games, so I don't see your point;

  • Your account stats: https://steamdb.info/calculator/76561198048054765/?cc=eu
    You have yourself over 800 games not played + 1231 with less than 2 hours of playtime. You are not advertising them yourself, I don't understand why Steam should do it.
    As you can see Steam's System works fine, cause the majority of these game could have been (or can be) shovelwares or simply troll games (the good old achievements spam games), with which Valve is trying to deal banning them;

  • You have a Youtube account created in 2006 with 75 subscribers and very few visualizations on every video you made, which leads to a double suspect: on one hand you aren't a good youtuber/advertiser and you are trying to lay the blame on Valve about games not being good enough to emerge; on the other hand, this fact prove enough that having "showcases" is totally useless if none follow you (or, as I said, none care about them) or the game is plain bad.

About this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch-22_(logic)

Your average indie developer makes a game and wants to promote it. How?
  • Keys giveaway to youtubers or specialized sites;
  • Directs;
  • Internet advertising (game page, talking with community, meetings, etc.);
  • Choose a publisher;

  • BEING A VALID GAME
and so on.
I hope you can see the fallacy in your supposed "logic".

Get the hell out of here, telling this guy he's a bad youtuber

So what about free to play games then? How exactly it it supposed to "sell enough"?

Like so many of steam's feature this is just plain stupid and broken. :steamfacepalm:
thats a gid game
Knightwolf 2019 年 11 月 29 日 下午 5:44
i just like to say in 2019 by steamspy there was 7,737 games released this year which is 650-750 games released per month or average of 645 games per month so if we follow this trend

there will be about 750 games released in December which would make it about 8,480 released total in 2019 at the end of the year

I said totally free, no IAP.

Total users owning it and concurrent player count is a bit higher than games that aren't free.
