Trolls Are Ruining Steam.
Did you ever have an idea about a game get cut down by comments from a gaggle of trolls. I'm sick of the scum and their criticism. People comment just to put down your ideas without having anything of their own to add.

Lets make it so the origional poster has the ability to delete comments from his post. The right to comment has been taken over by trolls that enjoy insulting and mocking ligit posters.

Make it so we can edit our own threads please, OR, make it so your profile and comment history has to be visible for you to comment on anything. Then at least we'll know who these trolls are by their past comment history.

Thank you.

So basically a system where a developer potentially could only allow favorable feedback.....

Nothing bad could possibly come from that right?

Did you ever stop to consider that maybe just maybe the criticism you say come from trolls could be genuine opinions from people who disliked aspects of it or how it was presented all together?

Criticism is actually a good thing since it can let people give feedback and if there's an interest for what is being presented.

I personally have yet to see this as more than isolated incidents from time to time

They are not your threads to edit, they belong to the community. This is a public forum for all the users.

Devs already have too much power.
Recently some devs deleted comments in their game discussion forum in Steam, saying that any criticism should be posted in their blog.
And then deleted the comments on their blog and closed the comments there.
When I posted about this, BAM, banned for the forums.
Their reason? Hate speech and trolling.

Some people can't take criticism. At all. :sarah:
Post history is already public and easily viewable by all. Just click the little triangle next to their name and you can view their post histories. As for profiles being private, I am of the opinion that you should only judge a person online by their words and actions, not by who they appear to be. If someone is consistently toxic, their post history reflects it.

As for allowing the OP to dictate how a topic should flow? Absolutely not. We already have snowflakes who cannot take any opposing viewpoint to their own. It would just enable echo chambers filled with yes-men.

If your idea is solid, it will stand on its own and no amount of trolls can poke holes into it. If trolls are determined to derail your topic and/or are violating rules, report their posts with a vengeance. They might call you a "snitch" for reporting, but last I checked, "snitching" isn't violating any rules. While trolling, flaming and derailing is. :emofdr:

GOOD. Lets KEEP the criticism. Just make it so your profile and comment history CAN'T be hidden to post comments. Is THAT ok? Let's see how many ppl just roll around to different post and get their kicks insulting others.

Report, ignore and MOVE ON.

You will not be granted the ability to delete posts that are NOT yours on the forums.

Create a group and you can do all you want to others posts there.

That's slightly different though. The forum is a public arena for discussion as is most channels where games are being promoted. Steam profiles is actually more or less the property of the account holder.

So they're really not comparable

You KNOW some ppl go around to any comment they think they can insult and do so. How do you stop the scum?

Of course but I give them no attention since I have no interest in engaging with them unless they have something to say that I find worthy of my response

There's a saying you know:
"Don't feed the trolls"?

Other than that just report their post if it violates the forum guidelines

If you think the forums are beyond saving you might consider leaving it and play the games

Look at my history when I posted about Oxygen Not Included. Do you think any of those ppl that commentes on my post were trolls?

Only one of it was unconstructive, in my opinion. I reported that one for trolling. It's the nature of public forums to have people from all walks of life, who reply to topics with different tones of voice. Some people are polite, some are abrasive (while remaining constructive), and some are just downright toxic. Just report the ones that you feel do not belong on a public forum and let moderators handle it. Though, if you report wrongfully often, the mods will let you know. It's why I usually report only the posts that I'm very sure are breaking the rules.

Thank you Ripperjack. I should calm down. I should remember that trolls don't exist in real life. They would have gotten beaten to death for insulting the wrong person...lol.

Report obvious rule violations but also learn how to ignore trolls.
