Bring back free weekend games?
I have noticed since around 2015 that there have no longer been any games that go free 2 play for a weekend. In my opinion they were really good and helped me find a fair few games that I actually ended up liking and later purchasing. I think these should be brought back.

Anyways while i'm sure the majority of people don't know about this... I do already know that for some bizare reason Steam removed weekend games from libraries all together and are now forcing you to go through their horrendous (and only sometimes working) news system EVERY day to find out if a game is on a free weekend or trial. I personally think they should be brought back.

If you're wondering why they were removed from the library it can be summed up like this: "I don't want to click "show only installed games" so I want Steam to remove them completely ignoring the vast majority that like them." and Steam did.

There are always free weekend games. It is up to the developer/publisher to join the promotions.

Oh hey Tom Clancy's Wildlands is on a free weekend. I didn't know about this.

Main store page listed with "SPECIAL OFFERS."

Users complained about the automatic free game in the library. Valve took that away.

No, no I didn't. That gamae is terribad imo.
Thing is you don't get notified in any way if you don't log into steam but keep the client runnung for weeks.
Wildlands was this weekend.
My friend brought up how they should just make a section in your library dedicated to free weekend games so you know when games are on a free weekend.

That, for some reason, really freaks out people when their library changes. Some very anal people out there.

On one hand it's kind of a nice thing though not having changes like that happen too often (unlike YouTube) but on the other hand it's a bit rediculous how little Steam changes.

Well, there's a general feeling I think that the Steam client should be sort of a "personal space" that, aside from having a web browser integrated with the Steam store and the pop-up ads on startup, doesn't advertise to you.

That said, the way the library used to change wasn't adding a section for free-weekend games. It was simply leaving the free-weekend game in you library, sorted alphabetically, as if it were a game you had purchased. And you couldn't even opt out of it either.

So it wasn't even obvious that it was a free weekend game. It just looked like a game you hadn't installed yet. That was what was weird about it.

What they SHOULD have done is to make it a separate section, like (C)FatheredPuma81 suggests, and make that thing an opt-out feature.

We all know Valve isn't the uh... most active of people (with them taking ages to patch very exploitable bugs and stuff) so I personally can't really see them adding an opt-out feature to them sadly. I honestly can't even see them bothering to even add it back sadly.
gonna be honest, the idea of having a sub section of your library for games that are currently on a "try for <insert amount of time>" promotions is one of the better ideas I have seen on his forum in a fair bit
Users will still complain like they do with the VR category.

Some people are just weird like that.
