Suggestion/Request - Review comment moderation?
To whom it may concern,

Would it be possible to have a setting to make it so a steam-user has to approve a comment on a review before it automatically posts... additionally with the option to report it for moderation to Steam? (And yes, I'm aware that the reviewer can delete the comment once it's posted, just requesting the means to get a notification before the comment is made viewable asking if it's acceptable to be viewed with the option to report it if it's inappropriate.)

Side-Note: An ability to hide certain reviews from other users, so that only the reviewer can see it and discuss it might be useful too... sort of like how they have on Facebook. That way if it's a comment that the reviewer might agree with, yet possibly be inflammatory to other users, it could shield the commenter from too many attacks or lash-backs.

Gets harder and harder to give honest/unbiased reviews, or even wanting to review at all, when toxic fanboys wants to drop trolling/insulting/attacking comments under reviews that are either meant to attack, upset, or bully the reviewer.

I recall seeing people mentioning this issue in previous game forums, and am aware it's been an issue for awhile... ultimately leading to only either bot-reviews or toxic/fanboy/biased reviews which wouldn't give a real and/or honest perspective of a game and could lead to misrepresentation of a product that could later cause consumers to feel they misspent their money and seek further refunds.

If this would be possible, that'd be awesome/wonderful, and in advance, THANK YOU SO MUCH! :steamhappy:

EDIT: Yep, with a bit of a search, this has been an issue for a bit... https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/359543951704854278/?ctp=2#c359543951706218510

People will just use this as an excuse to remove comments they don't like, whether inappropriate or not.

NO.

NO.

They can already remove the comments they don't like by clicking "delete"... so it's just doing it before it's posted/visible rather than after! ROFL. :steammocking:

(So it'd be more of a "filter" so that people could select which ones show, which don't, and which to report pro-actively.)

LOL, I didn't know this. None of my reviews have comments.

I'm losing my touch...

You do have quite a few responses to a few reviews.

I was looking from my review page on my profile and didn't realize they don't show there :(

Yeah. You have to click each one.

So despite my foolery in this thread, the question remains. If you have a delete function why do you need a filter?

So that they can all be grouped with the option to click which are viewable as well as be able to have a report button on each for inappropriate comments.

As a hypothetical, say you post a review, then time goes by, and you go on a vacation, or you're not directly checking it... and somebody decides to post a comment that's massively attacking, threatening, inflammatory, slander, or whatever... and you don't always constantly babysit your reviews... that toxic comment could be viewable and present for days, weeks, even months before somebody realizes it. By moderating, you have to first approve the comment (much like guest-books and blogs) before it's posted to be more preventative of inappropriate comments getting through and possibly being overlooked. :steamhappy:

There's even chat-forums out there (I think Steam groups/forums might even have an option for it) where your post/comment has to be approved before being visible. :steammocking:

PS - As it stands now, there's not even a button/link on a comment to report it. I've never reported a person for their comments, and hoping it never comes to that... but as far as I can tell, if a person would ever have to, they'd have to first go to the person's profile, report it, and then try to detail that it's not them or their profile but try to redirect them to the comment in question.

If you use the mobile app all of this "while on vacation" would be irrelevant as you get notifications of new comments and messages in it.

Again though, "on vacation" was just ONE hypothetical... I also said people that don't want to have to babysit their reviews all the time just to make sure people are linking porn in the comments, or posting/saying derogatory stuff, etc.

PS - I also have the Steam app on my phone, and turn off notifications on most things... because between work, personal, news, Facebook, etc... my phone kept buzzing off the hook, became distracting while driving, and bothersome when busy... so I pretty much just have notifications on for new calls, texts, work-stuff, family-stuff, etc... and turn most all other notifications off.

I put a rick roll (it was appropriate though...I think) in someone's review asking for a good song to go along with the review a couple weeks ago.

This would have actually prevented that so I say NO. :)

Again, it wouldn't have prevented it... it would have just placed it in their notifications asking them if they wanted it to be visible or scrap it and/or report it. :steamfacepalm:

PS - In an odd way though, thank you for pointing out why exactly something like this could be needed... imagine if somebody wanted to do a porn video, or some video with grotesque violence, instead of just Rick Astley.

PPS - Also, this suggestion is to Valve/Steam... you can say "NO", all you want to, but if Steam decides it's a good idea and want to use it, I don't have to debate nor validate my reasoning to you or anybody else. (Not to be rude.)

EDIT: Anywho, wasn't planning on debating why caution/safety/filter-options on the internet in 2017 should be a modern option and/or good idea for user/reviewer-controls/protection... so if Steam/Vale take and use the idea great, otherwise, going to unsubscribe from this thread now so I don't keep getting bombarded (in the Steam client) with notifications. (Was bizarre to jump back to Steam earlier and suddenly have 6-9 new notifications, lol.)

OR....

As a hypothetical, say you post a review, then time goes by, and you go on a vacation, or you're not directly checking it... and somebody decides to post a comment that's correct, polite and pointing out where you are wrong and how you can fix the issues you have, or whatever...and you don't always constantly babysit your reviews... this comment would never be seen by anyone for days, weeks, months before you 'approve it'.
