Hide VR games in feed - Steam pushing VR titles to non-VR users!
I really don't like how steam is pushing these VR titles lately. If you can make a VR game as a developer, then you can addapt it to a non-VR option as well, a lot of games have this option by the way. And if you can't do this, that's fine by me...

Just make a steam option to hide all VR releases from my feed (advertisements, recommendations and discover). Because I'm wasting time and nerves checking out new and newer game titles, only to discover they are VR only, happens so often now that something needs to be done! I'm not a VR user and I don't plan to become one that soon. I like to play my games the way I always did, looking at my monitor.

Perhaps in a near future will steam make a separate store for VR-only games. That would be great! Or perhaps a way to let steam know you are not a VR user, something simple as a checkbox under profile settings that actually works...

+1 this needs to happen, i hate filtering through VR only games cause i cant afford VR system, we need a "hide vr only games" option, games that have VR support are ok cause i can still play them on a non vr set up but i will likely never own a VR system atleast till VR is so common it is like buying a new mouse, but i will never pay over 200$ for VR gear and that doesnt look like it is going to happen any time soon.

note... it does not affect the entire store by changing the settings.

ok I unchecked the VR games, thanks Zefar, I never seen this option before. Let's see if it works...

It won't. When games first get Store pages on Steam, there are no tags. Only after users have applied the same tags enough times do tags actually appear on the particular game store page (hence, the whole system of user applied tags). For a while then there will be VR games that do not have the VR tag and therefore that particular checkbox that Zefar pointed out will do absolutely nothing to block that VR product because there is no VR tag in place.

Go look at the page for the upcoming VR game "Distant Nightmare: Virtual reality". It comes out tomorrow and on the Store page the only tag it has is "Casual". No VR tag. This will allow it to bypass any and all VR filters you may have set in place under Preferences or in your Queue filter lists. That VR game isn't the only one, there are plenty of others that will release without the VR tag as well and make it onto your Steam front page.

The filtering system is broken. There needs to be a better system in place.

A majority newer games that I've checkd over time had the VR tag when I first saw them, so basically the system works, it's just that the devs don't know or want to "fill out the forms" properly.

I think in the case of upcoming VR titles such as "Distant Nightmare: Virtual reality", the devs perhaps thought with such a title VR is obvious... Or maybe the just made a quick entry without giving it too much thought. It can be modified anytime. If not else, this should happen at least a day before release... but I agree, If that game had to have any tags, the tags should be VR and Horror, and not frickin' casual. "Casual" just doesn't cut it, it doesn't tell us much about the game.

If these people don't know how or just openly refuse to use this working system correctly, they will continue to misuse/abuse it. the system shall not adapt to their stupidity... Steam should sanction them by taking 10% of ther income per sold product periodically once a month until they learn the lesson and decide to apply proper tags to their products!

Erhm.... I've both unchecked Virtual Reality content AND added the VR tag to my exclusion list and Steam still merrily recommends VR titles to me all the fupping time.

Now that you remind me, I have done the same - added the VR tag to exclusions - many months or even a year ago! ...It had literally no effect, it was useless :/

If you don't have the VR tag in exclusion list you'll get even more VR titles. I deleted VR from my exclusion list and went from seeing 1 or 2 VR titles in my queue to seeing half or more.

So it does do something. LOL!

The Steam Store really needs to start treating exclusions as actual exclusions, rather than loose suggestions.

My thing is I don't want to block games with a VR option. Steam needs a filter for VR only. I have no intention of spending $1000 on a gimmick to play games.

Since this isn't happening. Is there a website with a script that would browse through all games and set games with the VR tag to IGNORE? Or something? Can someone make it? I'd pay to ignore all games tagged with VR and all Anime games of the flat of the earth. I might have more tags in the future that I hate.

Because I'm wasting time and nerves checking out new and newer game titles, only to discover they are flatscreen only, happens so often now that something needs to be done! I'm a VR user and I don't plan to downgrade soon. I like to play my games the way I actually enjoy them, actively being in them physically, instead of looking at them through a flat monitor. My back has been ruined by decades of sitting in front of a monitor, and I hate it. VR gives people freedom and ability to restore health while having fun. I would be so much happier and healthier person now, if only I was playing games in VR. I’m so happy for the new generation of gamers that will be able to play video games actively, physically, and more immersive than we ever have experienced before.

I has been playing DOOM, first Unreal Tournament, Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen, when I was a kid, but it’s time to move on. This 2D wall needs to be broken. To hell with monitors, throw them out of windows. You have a VR headset as cheap as $300.

Irony aside, it would be really nice to have an option to see only VR content on steam. I have no plans to return to flatscreen gaming ever.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
